Laminate Flooring
I thought I posted this yesterday, but I must have pressed preview instead of submit because I can't find it now.
I used to hate laminate flooring and wouldn't even consider it. We had put some down back when it first came out and it looked fake, chipped when things fell on it, and felt like walking on a cardboard floor. We had planned on putting down hardwood in our new house and I was expecting to spend $8000-$10000 on floors.
When we were at the flooring store I happened to notice the new laminate flooring and could not believe it. It comes in planks like hardwood (no more fake grooves drawn on it), and it was almost as thick. It was also almost as expensive. We took home samples of wood, engineered wood, and laminate; then I smashed all the samples with hammers and scraped chairs over them. I couldn't make a scratch on the laminate, it looked great, and we could put it in for less because we could install it ourselves. We decided to go with the laminate.
Then just before I ordered it, home depot had a special on 12mm laminate, the same colour as the one we picked (different pattern but close enough), for about a third of the price of the one we were going to get. I ran in and bought most of their stock before he'd even put it out on the floor.
We just finished installing it on Monday and I really love it. I'm so glad I didn't get the real wood floors. It looks great, I won't be stressed about it getting damaged - and if it does, I can just take it apart and replace a board - and best of all, we got all the floors done (4 bedrooms and a large rec room) for about $1000!!! That's a tenth of what I expected to pay!
My joints were a little stiff yesterday, but well worth the savings

I'm glad your happy! We put laminate in a year ago, and I was all prepared to hate it. But I love it! We put ours in ourselves, too. We are looking to put it in a few other rooms now that we know how nice it is.

I have it in my kitchen, I'm thinking about putting it in other rooms also.
Great job saving all that money!Pine trees, with their needles pointing up to heaven, represent everlasting light and life.
