pleased "sure fit stetchy" customer here. i bought the kind with the separate cushion cover. it doens't move . it need a few strategic straight pins here and there to make the arms fit right. no biggie.

I'm planning on doing something similar. My DH has a chair I call the ugly chair, but we can never bring ourselves to get rid of it because it is so comfortable. I'm planning to refit a too-large slip cover to the chair and make a cushion cover out of the extra fabric for the cushion.

I have two very nice oversized chairs that I was fortunate to find at a thrift store, but the flame stitch fabric just doesn't suit me, so I am willing to deal with the repositioning, etc. that's involved in using the off-the-shelf slipcovers.

I have to recommend the cork-screw type pins for securing slipcovers.

We had a sure-fit slipcover that we loved- it was 2 pieces- one piece was for the cushions and the other went on the frame of the sofa (we took the cushions off, covered the sofa, then put the cushions back on)- we loved it because the couch was hideous. With the 2 piece cover, it was great because when people sat on it, it didn't all pull out.

We got ours at some discount store like ocean state or big lots or something for $30. But we have had others that I hated- I would definitely get a 2 piece one again though.

From experience with 1 piece slipcovers we would have to agree that the two piece covers (cushions & couch separate) would seem to be much better for keeping things neat.

A couple of years ago we purchased a country style 1-piece slipcover for our couch and loveseat from Overstock, the covers never stay in place if someone actually sits on the furniture! It's frustrating to have to straighten the covers everyday (sometimes 2-3 times) to have the room look decent. We've tried using those "stay in place" items that you tuck down into the furniture to help hold the covers but haven't had much luck with them either.

Believe it or not, we have comforters on our old sofa and chairs. It's one of the Waverly Gardens designs and boy, did it save on reupholstering. I do have the coordinated sheets tacked down on the body of the sofa and chairs.

The one time I tried a slip cover, I purchased on for a "medium" couch. This did not fit at all. I tried to tie down all the corners and tuck in the excess. In the end, it just looked horrible. What I did end up doing, was taking the couch and having it re-upholstered. It looks like a brand new couch now. It cost a bit more, but well worth it.

I was tired of my old furniture and decided to slip cover it looked nice and shabby chic as long as no on SAT DOWN. Then it just looked shabby. You have to be able to live with it I tried for 2 years none of my children would ever fix it back. So I broke down and bought new. I would suggest them if you have small children because they are easy to clean up if not always neat looking.
