Plastic Bag Christmas Wreath

I did one of these a few days ago...

Wreath - Recycled Bags - DIY Craft Project Instructions

I did it in all white. It took about 30 grocery store bags (I only used the plain side because I didn't want the colored print on it). It's so easy to do and the best part is you don't have to be really particular if you cut the strips straight or even or for that matter all one length. I trimmed it to cut off the longer strands. Next time I'm at Dollar Tree I'll get a pkg of the small red bows and maybe a few floral picks. I'm going to save the yellow Dollar General bags and do a yellow one for next spring!!!

People made those in the 1960's from either blue or clear dry cleaning bags. I can't remember exactly how they were done, but I think it was a little different from your instructions. People made plastic poodles the same way!

Some small Christmas balls and holly looked nice on the old-style ones.

Oh gosh this post brought back memories. We made them in the 60's or 70's with the dry cleaner bags. They lasted forever. This may be a fun craft to do with my Granddaughter.

For some reason, it seems like the dry cleaning bags were used to make pompoms, and then those were attached to make the wreaths or poodles. I can remember the long loops being doubled many times and then the loops cut open after being tied to form the pompoms. Seems like we used bread wrapper ties to hold the pompoms, and then they were also long enough to wire the pompoms to the coat hangers. The design above seems like it would be quicker and easier.

I remember making these, in the 60's, but I don't think we made the pompoms. I can remember tying on the strips to the hanger and putting on as many as we could.
I think we did this as a project in brownies or girl scouts.

we made these as kids using baggies (the non ziploc kind) and just folded them in half and tied them on squishing them as close together as possible.

I thought of this thread when I went to target the other day. I Bet target bags would make pepperminty looking wreaths.

COOL! I have lots of bags. I save them and usually take them to the store and put them in the recycling barrel. BUT I haven't taken them in a while. Maybe I will try this!
