Do you prefer carpeting or hardwood floors?

We have a lot of hardwood throughout our house, and while I really prefer the look of it, I sometimes wonder if just vacuuming carpeting is easier.

Of course it is easier to change the look when you have hardwood since you can just change a throw/accent rug for a new look. Plus, it's a great selling point if you want to sell your home.

Which do you prefer and why?

I like my hardwood floors - I just hate cleaning them. We only have carpet in our den but I wish we had the hardwood in there too.

It depends on the room. In bedrooms I prefer carpet. But for the rest of the house wood or tile.
Kitchens and bahtrooms i would not use wood, too hard to clean!

I hate our hardwood floors!!! They are so dirty all the time. I can sweep and an hour later they are filthy again. What is all that stuff?!

I like hard wood....
Let me tell you I got the hoover floormate for Christmas and it is so easy and really cleans the floors and they are loking nice and clean!!
I like cermanic tile too but boy is that tile cold today!!

I have never had hardwood flooring but I like the look of it. We just bought new carpet for our house and I do like walking on the soft carpet.

I would love to have hardwood throughout our home but interesting enough, we don't have hardwood at all. When we purchased our home, there were rugs everywhere (which I hate) but I found out why. We only have a partial basement and the rest of the floors would have been extremely cold without a carpet!!

Someday though, I would love to put hardwood on the floor when we fix the basement part.

I think I'd like hardwood floors. I think they'd be cleaner than carpeting and as Michelle pointed out it wouldn't take much to change the look of a room. If we didn't have the carpeting we have now our feet would freeze on these floors. Brrrrrr! So I am very thanful for my carpeting right now.

My entire house except the kitchen and bath had hardwood floors when we bought it 14 years ago. We wanted to refinish them as they were in bad shape, but found out we couldn't. They had already been refinished a couple of times and there wasn't enough thickness to them to sand again. So we had to put carpeting throughout the entire house.

It has kept the heating bills down. But I hate shampooing them!

We have hardwood floors in our entire house except for the bedrooms. I prefer the way they look and I think they are better for our allergies.

I love hardwood floors. I would love to have them in my house but we have carpet and the floor under them is just old ugly subflooring. I think we would all breath better with hardwood floors instead of the carpet which holds dust and pollen. I think I could vacuum a dozen times a day and I would still have dust in the carpet. I live in a rural area and I fight the neverending battle with dust.
