Default Taking the plunge~Painting our cabinets, but what paint?

I started sanding down all the peeling rough edges on the drawers and doors, so now we are almost ready to paint these suckers

We are wondering what type of paint we should use? It's a veneer particle board we'll be painting over. Anything we need to do for prep work before it's painted on?

At first I was worried we would do a cruddy job, but when I got up close to the doors I realized there is no way we could do any worse than it already looks

use a primer first, then you alomost cant go wrong. Go to your local home improvement center and ask in the paint dept. They are ususally very good and tell them what your budget is. They are a big help. IT IS ONLY PAINT. If you don't like it, you can paint it again

Same advice here, prime, prime, prime and then you will have no problem with the paint "sticking" to the cupboards. When we painted ours I used a semi gloss to give it a bit of shine but not too much and it is easy to wipe down. What colour are you using?

We just plan on using just a white paint I think
Although if we paint our walls the same color of white will that look weird?

No, not at all because with curtains, flooring and accessories, they will add colour. Mind you some people like all white everything...I would get a little nervous!!

Sand and prime then use a latex based paint for durability. The home store people will be able to help you pick a good one. Just tell them what you are doing and they can set you up.

Heather I just came back from Lowes and Home Depot looking at paint samples. I think it was in the Ralph Lauren section at Home Depot they had brochures on painting with just white and it looked really good. It would be easy to change the decor in there also...you can add any color you like!!

Heather, I used (don't laugh) Kid's paint. Why ? Because it cleans up soooooo easy! That way if something gets splattered on the walls, cabinets etc... you can just wipe it right off. Good Luck and post some pic's when you're done!
