Question Need advice about wall color please

I have blue fixtures in my bathroom. Sink, toilet and bathtub are all the sky blue color from the 1950s when my house was built. I have always had the walls in the bathroom painted white but I want to add some color to them. I need advice as to what color would go with my sky blue fixtures, they are not a pastel blue but definately not anything close to Robin's Egg blue, just plain ole sky blue. I know you decorating gurus will come up with something great for me. I don't have any kind of theme going in there so I am absulutely open to ALL suggestions. Thanks so much in advance.

Find a fabric or wall covering or border with that color in it, find something you really love and go from there with your colors.......
Use the other color in that .......

Kathy - I'm not being rude (I hope you don't think so!) and I don't know what you like? But personally I've never liked coloured bathroom suites - and I got one in my last house! (Mind you one of my favourite colours is blue) My suite was peach!! with matching peach tiles everywhere - it was the worst bathroom I'd ever seen LOL.

I drove myself nuts over that bathroom as I couldn't afford AND wasn't allowed to change it.

Eventually I picked out a darker tone of the same colour for the walls and tile stickers with peach, terricota and green in them, in an ethnic pattern - I went completely wild with peach and terricota everywhere - Like it was MY choice LOL and I have to say it did look really nice afterwards! They had originally done the bathroom pink, which didn't go at all and just made it look even more dated.

Recently I saw a decorating programme on TV and the woman had a chocolate brown bathroom suite!!! (Actually that was worse than mine LOL) anyway they picked out the same colour and painted a stripe around the bathroom in that colour and accesorised with it and that looked nice too.

So sorry to go on and on (like Lori said so much better than me LOL) I would definately choose the same colour (or a tone of the same colour) and go wild with it - it just seems to bring everything together and blue is nice in bathrooms anyway - well in my opinion

Have fun and remember to show us the pics

I agree with Lori (captclearance) find a nice fabric you like for the shower curtain or window or a boarder or even towels and that have the same color blue and other colors also in it and pick one of the other colors and paint the wall.. I am not a white wall person I think color looks better than white any way so maybe I am not the right person to answer :~)

It is hard for me to say without seeing it but off the top of my head I might go with a tan, a medium tan not too dark but not light either.. or a nice medium gray same thing not too light or too dark

Good luck and let us know what you do.

Find a really great sheet that you like, I do not sew, but I made my own shower cutains out of a sheet that was just the color I wanted. They have a balloon on the top and large grommets that were not hard at all to do.......... It was easy and the result was great........ It will be easier to find the curtain you want this was than find a ready made curtain....... I just hung heavy duty liner on the inside... The cost of the curtains, sheets, grommets, rings, everything was about $15.00 ..............

    Kathy,
What other colors do you like? I'm trying to picture your bathroom, is it small? I think I would maybe go with an Ivy pattern, add some green and maybe a light coffee cream? Something to take away from your blue (if that's what you'd like to do).
Maybe you could do an Italian Villa theme?
Like paint an Urn on one wall with a potted Ivy growing out of it. Maybe do a Faux Plaster finish on the walls?
Is your sink free standing? or do you have cabinets under it?
What color is the wood work? are you chaning that as well?

I think it'd be lovely done with the Ivy and Cream, and you can get the shower curtain and accessories to match fairly cheap.

Since you already have the blue color, maybe you could go with an ocean theme (sailboats, seashells, or even a fish pattern), paint the walls a soft white, put up a border and a matching shower curtain and accent with things that go with your theme (like seashell stuff or a fish shaped rug, etc). I also like blues and purples together, you could bring in a border and shower curtain with blues, purples and maybe some pinks and then accent using those colors with rugs, towels, etc.

Thanks for all the great ideas everyone. I love the idea for turning a sheet into a shower curtain, I would have never thought of it. I will be looking for one that I really like to build from that. Thanks again for all the great ideas, I knew you decorating divas would come up with some some great ones!
