Question Does decorating your home come easy to you?

I've been looking at all these neat ideas that Carolyn has posted and some of these websites and I drool over decorating magazines and yet I find it so hard to decorate like I want.

Its not something that comes easy for me and I wonder if it comes naturally for others or do you struggle with it too.

If you do struggle, where do you finally get your inspiration from? Do you use websites, magazines or not bother?

I think it comes easy to me but mostly because I do what I like not what I think other people would like but I do things that I think look good....
I also watch lots of decorating shows, like room by room, decorating cents, trading spaces, while you were out, surprise by design so I see how you can do something with little money and get inspritation from those shows sometimes..

I'm basically the same way, I guess I dont really care what other people will think...or why else would I be painting my wall orange!!! I just surround myself with the things that make me happy.

No it doesn't come easy. This house is full of wallpaper which totally overwhelms me. Regular walls you can paint...instant change. Most overwhelming is my LR that has a cathedrial ceiling, balcony 30 year old wallpaper galore. I don't know what, when or how I'll deal with this. If Dh & I ever did wallpaper together our marriage would be over, lol.
I too love those mag pics. & make my rooms outside where I decorate with plants and no wallpaper.

    LOL Robin and Darlene!!

I find it comes easy to me but I keep changing my mind...and that is the trouble. I will see something and think, now that would look good!! And then I see something else and think the same thing, that is why I wait and make absolute sure it is something I want in my house or to change in my house.

I get my inspiration from the decorating shows, magazines, internet and if you can believe it other peoples homes (not in person mind you but on real estate boards...my sister in law works for a company and she gave me that great idea...check out virtual tours on real estate boards, lots of neat ideas and I figure it's real people living in these homes not just on a magazine!!)

I love decorating. Sometimes I have an idea already about what I want to do (like my seaside room - inspired by the wooden wall that was already there and I'm no builder, so it wasn't coming down) I watch lots of decorating shows and cut pictures I like from magazines (even when I'm not decorating) I just stick them all into a book, just because I like the pictures or colours etc. (I'm very childish like that LOL) And when I want to decorate I go through them all and put different looks together.

Also it's the one thing I'm not frightened of doing 'wrong' - it's so easy to change.

I also change my mind quite often - but that's the beauty of it, it's so large you can just change, change, change. And also everything looks 'completely' different.

Yep definately one of my better hobbies

oh good - I'm glad I'm not completely mad LOL

Everyone thinks it's childish but that's exactly what I do - I have a scrapbook with pics of home decor, fashion, flowers, materials - all kinds of things - I keep pictures I like for different reasons.

They give me inspiration and sometimes I just look at them because they are nice and they make me happy - other times I think 'what on earth did you put that one in for?' LOL

It comes easy to me if it's someone else's space. My own, I end up spinning in indecision most of the time. I'm like that inside and in the yard. I know what I like and what I don't like, but if given too many choices...I just can't decide what it is I truly want.
I do agree with the ~fill your home with items you love and you can't go wrong though~. I guess my best friend is a color wheel and outside of that....it's just what I personally like.
For me it's pretty easy because I am starting over with barely anything.
I don't like themes (except for kid's rooms and possibly a washroom) and like rooms very understated and minimalistic. I like a room to look like yoga feels if that makes sense.
I have very classic traditional taste. I like to clip pictures and ideas.

I Love to decorate and I can't wait to we have a budget to where I can get what I truly would love in our own home.... some day, some day.

With colors on the wall (we rent... I hate white walls!) Stuff like this not necessarily expensive stuff because I believe that you can find by looking around good prices and know what you're willing to pay for what you love, kwim?

hmm, I think we'd be happier if I did decorate here a bit more but since we don't like it here I don't really want too because well so many reasons. lol, that probably sounds bad but if I were in our own home I would be completely different than I am now. some day.

I have a hard time decorating a room. I stick to neutral colors for walls and carpeting and muted tones of pastel colors in draperies. I like change but I have such a small home that moving furniture around is not always practical. My bedroom decorating is the hardest for me. I stick to only changing curtains and bed covers to suit the seasons and I try and stay in the same color themes so I won't feel compelled to repaint the walls again.

I watch all the home decorating shows on HGTV and DIY but most of what they are able to do to a room will not work in such small spaces like I have, like my eat-in kitchen.

I have collected a lot of knick-knacks and have no place to display them and I refuse to put up a bunch of shelves or curio cabinets and clutter what few walls I do have.

I am moving towards a minimalist approach to decorating my home and keeping function and storage in mind rather than decorating and displaying. I get tired of looking at the same old things on walls and shelves and I don't want to add to my dusting and cleaning work.

An empty wall doesn't bother me anymore. A few family pictures and paintings is more than enough to reflect my personality thesedays.

Everyone is different, though. I want to spend my extra time enjoying things I like to do rather than washing and dusting.

It definitly comes easy to me...I love to decorate...I love finding the perfect widget to go with the widget I already have...everyone loves my home...they talk about what a "good job" I do decorating....not bragging here I will work and work until I get the room just the way I want it...
