What is your choice for decorating?

We've just renovated our living room and now I have to decide whether I should paint, wallpaper or both.

Our home is over 100 years old and is a Victorian home.

What would you do, paint or wallpaper? And just for fun, what colors would you choose?

You know I would have always said wallpaper but looking at my living room and knowing that someday we will drywall and all will be new I have decided that I am going to paint it instead of wallpaper. Then I can have prints/patterns in my curtains, pillows, etc. and maybe even put up a border. I feel it is much cheaper to replace curtains etc. than to wallpaper again when/if I get bored of it.

The colour I am thinking would be a tan/sand colour.

I've taken down way too much wallpaper to be able to appreciate it. I would definitely paint - I think any fairly neutral color would be best, and agree with Heather that you should accessorize with fabric in window treatments and pillows, etc.

Well, I'm into primitive country looks...

I'd love to do a livingroom with wainscotting on the bottom half of the walls in white, and a dark red paint on the top half of the walls. Maybe with a different paint color, that would work in your victorian home, too.

I'm always in favor of paint over wallpaper... it's much easier to change.
