For those with mantles...
how have you decorated them or what do you have on yours?
Mine is really plain right now. I have two matching antique vases, an art deco clock and two framed pictures of the kids.
I'm looking for a nice picture for on the wall or something like a mirror.
Do you think mantle scarves are only for holidays? Just curious opinions on this.If you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. I have two mantles - the living room one has a really large rectangle mirror with a black and gold frame hung over top, a picture of each of my kids on one side in black frames and small bonsai tree on the other side. The family room has a large 9/11 American flag framed picture over top, and two pairs of pewter candle sticks. Both are fairly plain but that's the way I like them.
I don't use mantle scarves but I'd say they could be used year round.

Above the stone firepace is one complete long stone, that is the mantle. On it are 4 cast iron tall candleholderswith candles, 2 glass candle holders with candles , Pinecones of all sizes(lol) and an incense holder. Above the mantle on the wall is a sign that says~

Here's what the sign looks like

Living room mantle has a mantle clock, a metal antique looking truck, boat and bike. Also has a great bird's nest that dd found. There is nothing hanging over this one as the wall is brick and I just like the look of it that way.
The den mantle has another mantle clock and pictures of our family and some old stoneware jugs. This one has a very old gun hanging over it, way up high.

We have a picture of DH and I on the mantle along with some knick knacks. We also have a clock on the wall that chimes every hour on the hour.
