Do you have an extra freestanding freezer?
We're looking into buying a freezer when we move. Hurray!! I was wondering how many members have a freezer and what type? I am getting excited just thinking of finally being able to stock up a bit in the freezer. *LOL* We didn't have space here, but with the move yippee skippy. hehe

We don't have one yet. I want one so bad I can't stand it! We are going to hold out, though till we get our new mountain home. Not really any place to keep it here.
Congrats on the move and the new freezer!

Yes actually I have two and organize them in this way: the upright holds all the meats (we had a beef and pork slaughtered late last year), the chest is small and holds all frozen veggies from the garden and some other misc frozen items, the fridge/freezer contains the ice cream, popcicles frozen fruits, cheese, items that may be used more often. To save you some $$ you might want to check the paper, garage sales, and estate sales.

We have an upright frezer, it is about 15 or so years old. Finally trying to figure out how to get and KEEP things organized in it. I have plastic containers that have my packages of different meats seperated, that seems to help. Now if I can only get rid of the candy that I got on sale after Christmas, I will have another free shelf . Could not resist.. candy bars and FUDGE

We sure do! It's a Hotpoint ( had to go look to find the brand ) and is from dh's 2nd marriage. And they divorced in 1981. Oh dear, I bet that thing is as inefficient as you-knowwhat!
On 11-22-85 I married the man of my dreams.

I grew up in a house where we always had an extra freezer-and actually a fridge in the garage that was only plugged in for use when we were entertaining large scale. Now since there is only the two of us I have my fridge\freezer in the kitchen and kept the fridge/freezer from the second kitchen and put it in the garage-we got a lot of free turkeys at the holidays-his job and the grocery store giveaways- so the outside freezer still holds a few of those. I figure it will come in handy for outdoor parties over the summer.

Out here I couldn't live without one. I have to go 30 miles to shop and only go once a month. I load the freezer.
I got mine at Sears 2 years ago. It is 3 feet deep and beleive me we will never starve.
I shop at Sam's club and buy in bulk, it is a lot cheaper and then just make smaller packages of the meat and label and date and freeze it. I keep an inventory of what is in there so when I go the next time I will know what I need.
We are actually looking into buying another one for freezing our crops in fall.

I am a classic hunter/gatherer and could never be without an extra freezer. I have a huge one--I could actually stand up in mine if it were completely empty (no shelves OR food). I buy bread in bulk too, so always have tons of food in it. I always laugh when people panick when a bad storm is forecast. They all run to the store for extra food. I just glance fondly at my bulging pantry and freezer and don't get off the couch!

I love having a freezer! My MIL gave me hers a few years ago (pretty sure it's inefficient
) I love to go to BJ's or hit a great meat sale and pack it in. I gave the lower bin section to my mom so she can stock up too, just her and dad-but she can take advantage of great sales too. Now if I could just get the kids to run down there for me.....

Well Ive been lucky. I got an upright one last year for the small task of hauling it home from my Ex-MIL house. It came with about $200 of meat in it. She was down sizing and didnt need it. Last week a friend of mine informed when she was at the Goodwill someone had dropped off a chest deep freezer outside. I hurried there and ask the lady how much they would be asking for it. She told me it was a bit rusted & smelly funny so they were tossing it. And I could have it for free if I wanted to lug it home, lol Of course we brought it home. It sits on our porch so the little bit of rust didnt bother me. Actually most of it came off when I scoured it. We opened 4 boxes of baking soda and let it sit in there and the smell is gone. So now we have 2 freezers for free. Im doing like someone else suggested one will be for meats and the other will be for veggies, sauces, bread and cheese. I also started shopping at Sams so this is great for us. Especially since we want to start shopping once a month. I totally agree with the other person who suggested getting a used one. Ours are both over 10 years old but work great!

We have a 10.0 cubic foot chest freezer in our garage - I believe it's a Kenmore. We stock up on reduced meat at Sam's (when we can find it) and I only go to the bread outlet once a month so we keep it packed pretty full with a variety of things.

We got very lucky...when we bought this house (at $10000 under the asking price....never hurts to offer!) it came not only with two beautiful old deep clawfoot tubs...but a HUGE chest type freezer in the basement. I keep it stocked with everything that wont fit in the regular fridge freezer. I do need to replace the seal on it...we get a bad ring of ice around the top
but I am a really bad procrastinator..and as long as the food is staying frozen..I havent got around to that yet

Yes, we have had one for several years. I think it's a 13cu., it's very large. It's great for sales, but also for ice to put into ice chests when going on a picnic, camping or wherever. Nothing irks me more than having to pay for ice!
