    Default Need Decorating Help

Okay, we don't close until August, but dh & I are wondering how to set up this room. We've got: a couch, recliner, coffee table, entertainment center, ans end table. To the right of the fireplace is the door to the laundry room & the picture is being taken from over a dry bar, which eliminates that wall for furniture. I'm looking at the walk-out basement picture. Ideas?

I would consider placing the sofa perpendicular to the fireplace and with the back of it facing the sliding glass doors. Coffee table in the center and the recliner and end table across from it for a conversation area.

The entertainment center, how big is it? Do you have tv, stereo etc. in there? My guess would be to put it on the wall directly across from where I said to put the sofa, on the other side of the laundry room door.

Maybe you could find a sofa table at a garage sale for behind the sofa, that would look good.

I look at that room and don't see it as a room to house an entertainment center.

Here's an example. (best I can find for now) of an option I can see for in there with what you're saying you have for furniture. (end table between the couch/chair)

The problem is, it is going to be our family room. The house does have another room to make the family room, but we wanted to make that the playroom and make this room with the fireplace the family room. However, the entertainment center gums up the works. Dee, we can't put the entertainment center on the opposite wall because there is no wall...it's a bar.

First of all, Congratulations on getting the house!!!!! I'm thrilled for your family!!!! The first thing that comes to mind for me is adding a mantle over the fireplace. It just looks incomplete without one. I'll let the other ladies advise on furniture placement since that is not my strong point.

Then I'd angle the couch so it's back is to the bar with just enough space for the bar to be usable and to walk between. (angled) Then angle the entertainment center between the only wall available and the slider. Place the coffee table angled in front of the couch, the recliner next to the couch and the end table in between.

You can literally angle the couch in the direction of the far corner as far forward as almost to the fireplace without it looking bad. As long as there is walking space, you're good to go.

It will seem awkward at first because you see the back of the couch when entering the room, but you can remedy that with anything behind the couch. A plant, a sofa table, etc.

It's too bad you have the entertainment center. I could see a freestanding tv working in there or even getting a tv into that built in.

There's not a lot of options with the furniture you want in there and the room layout.

How about using this site Sara posted about a month ago?

It would save you from moving heavy furniture around once you get in.

Great advice! I'm still getting headaches about our livingroom. Can't do anything until we have the money saved up!

I can't see the pic. I was just thinking that if you didn't need the bar, could you make it into some sort of entertainment center?
