I love to do this. I have the Villeroy and Boch Petite Fleur set as my main dinner set but I often slip in other blue or pink plates and cups with it. Even though I have every item in the Petite Fleur line, I cannot have morning tea with anyone with everything matching. I'll leave out the milk jug and use a plain white one or I'll use different cups and saucers, or even a blue and white tea pot. I'm not one for matching anything.

I used to have a wonderful set of all different dishes that I had picked up at garage sales. I tried to keep the sizes the same, like all 10" plates.
It was fun. Got rid of them because of a space problem.
We went out to celebrate Mother's Day last night and the restaurant had all different plates, placemats, napkins. Even the salt and peppers were different on each table. It was really fun.

I try to collect pieces in certain themes or colors and then mix and match those. It looks really pretty!

I think mixing and matching is fun! Doesn't matter what it is. I love being creative with things.. could be dishes, could be something else. It's a great way to be unique and show your style the way you like it!

I have been collecting a set for years, I thought I would do a different place setting for each person, that was too hard to find complete settings so it's all really mixed, they all have a bit of green. Most are pretty old, but I love them. I just need to finish the set.

What..you mean some people use MATCHING pieces..wow, what a concept, LOL. Actually after raising teenagers, all my dishes are mismatched, you know a piece broke here, a piece carried off there. I think most of mine have came from garage and tag sales and although they are mostly florals, none actually match. I do love the look, it makes for a homey comfortable look to a table.

It's a great way to use those pretty garage sale/thrift store pieces that you just CANT resist!

I think it's neat. Besides, if there are major lulls in the conversation you can all discuss the different dish patterns & ooh and ahh over them.

I love that look of mismatched china! I am especially fond of my friend's collection of blue dishes, every one was picked up from a thrift store or yard sale. I don't think any are of the same pattern but they are all blue floral on a white background. Her table always looks so perfect when she sets it using a lace tablecloth, just lovely! At home I have always used plain white Corelle for everyday but am tempted to mix in some pretty chintz florals...

When we got married we registered for the Noritake Colorwarve Blue everyday china. Since it is just the 2 of us we took back a lot of it unfortunatly (we ended up with 14 place settings.) We still have quite a bit (6 or 8 I think) but once we start a family and have our own house with more space, I am going get rid of about half of the blue ones and buy the other colors that they have and mix and match them. I wanted to register for it that way, but I didn't, now I wish I had. I really want to mix it with the purple and greenand charcoal. I just looked at a site and they now have yellow and a raspberry.
