    Talking Need painting tips please!

We are going to be painting our whole new house. Bare, new, sheetrock the entire interior. The ceiling will be textured so we don't paint that. There will be nothing in the house, no flooring ect. We also will be staining the wood work and windows.

So any tips, hints, anything to make this jobs go as smooth as possible and as fast as possible. We will be painting with a few different colors. (not just one in the whole house)

    Thanks!!

I think what you call sheetrock we call "Plasterboard" and this can be very porus when new, the way most Decorators deal with this is to buy some dirt cheap white paint and paint on a couple of coats.
For speed use a Roller but use a brush to "cut in" (that's the fancy way of saying paint a few inches in from all the edges) Don't try rolling right up to the ceiling or the skirting board ?base boards)

I have moved house more than 20 times and decorated more rooms than I care to admit!

One thing I would caution against is rushing in to use bold colours. I think you need to "live" in the house before commiting to anything Radical.
You need to see how the light falls and how warm/cool the rooms feel.
Once you have given the house the white treatment, you have the perfect base for any other colours.
One thing that peopple don't realise is that if you use a very deep dark colour on a wall, in time when you decide to redecorate you will first have to put 2 coats of white paint on BEFORE you can repaint with the new colour! Why? because the dark colour will show through any other colour unless it is a lot darker than the original.
To "test" if you would like a particular colour on a wall paint a piece of lining paper (about 2 foot square) and tape it to the wall (with low tack masking tape!)
Live with this colour, for a few days, see how the light reflects on it, does it make the room seem Warmer/cooler etc.
This is a big subject and I can't fit it all here in one little box so feel free to pm/e mail me if you have any specific questions........
If it would be any interest to you I could take some pictures of the interior of my tiny English house so you can see what my personal taste is? The Biggest tip I can give anyone is to stop painting 30 minutes before you feel you should, why? because when we get tired we get sloppy and everyone underestimates the clean up time! ( learn from my bitter experience!)
    Hope this helps......Karen
