Describe your dream home
It doesn't have to be the one your living in. Tell us what type of home you've always dreamed of living in (even if it isn't what your living in right now).
I've always dreamed of living in a Victorian home. I do live in one but its not quite as I dreamed it would be. I would have had more windows especially in the kitchen. I'd love to have windows that looked out onto fields and fields of wheat and in the background, rolling hills.
My dream home would have a main bathroom that is huge, with a clawtooth bathtub, double sinks and old fashioned taps.
Each bedroom would be large (all of ours are), but would be decorated with old fashioned wall paper, have chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and a fireplace in the m/bedroom.
My living room would have stained glass windows along with a bay window (I have both) and would have hardwood floors (which we plan on installing in the next year).
I always wanted a large sewing room (I have a tiny one) and would have loved to have had a large room mainly for a library along with a fireplace and huge stuffed chairs.
My dream kitchen would be much larger than it is, with a cookstove that works and surrounded by cupboards, a double sink and my water tapped in through a well.
My dream yard would have been surrounded by Victorian gardens (roses, roses and more roses). I'm working on that. I also dream of having a white picket fence with an arch down our front sidewalk, with climbing roses and I've always wanted a porch that goes all around our home.
What about your dream home?

My dream home is nothing like what I currently live in-- but I like the one I have just fine.
My dream house would be a 2 story open-ended dome home, underground.
Situated on a south facing lot, with passive and active solar power. . . . we'd be off grid totally.
We'd have huge windows and window seats with lots of wood. The living room would have marble or slate floor, a huge fireplace with gray stone.
The kitchen would have a wood cookstove, a huge pantry, a large table for eating with the extended family (I don't really want a dining room- I prefer to eat in the kitchen).
The bedroom would have a four-poster bed with a canopy, quilts, lots of pillows. Master bath would have a jachuzzi.
We'd have a huge orchard in the yard, glider, stone paths. . . . .

Denise, your dream home sounds wonderful.
I forgot, after reading yours, that I'd be living off grid too. Interesting though I was reading an article where a family went off grid and it cost them $27,000 in 1990. Can't imagine what it would cost today.

It is funny I was just thinking about my "Dream Home" yesterday!
It wouldn't need to be that big ( there are only two of us)
A good size living room with a Wood burning Stove/Real Fire
A kitchen that was big enough to have a table & chairs in it ( ours is too tiny)
I Would just love one of those big old rRetro cookers(Stoves) like the Elmira ones
My bedroom would a good size and have his and her's bathrooms leading from his or her side of the bed
A guest room that was big enough that I could fit in a Sofa,TV and Coffee machine/mini frige full of fresh juice ( Hotel style!)
A little room lined with shelves for my books with two arm chairs and a small table
Most of all I really would LOVE a Laundry Room
I always seem to be doing Laundry, I would love an area where I could keep it all together, not everyones most important thing but what can I say , I like to be organised!
This house would be by the Sea or in The Lake District ( where we go at least once or twice every year)........a small cobbled courtyard with lots of old fashioned plants and Flowers and that would be me happy

Off grid costs have come down somewhat in the past few years. . . . solar panels, batteries, inverters are all slightly less expensive.

My dream house would have a big front porch with a porch swing, table & chairs {I miss my porch swing
}
The kitchen would have a built in pantry, built in china cabinet, a big window above the sink that would look out into my rose garden. Definately have a dishwasher lol & large enough to have a big table & chairs in {mine has a table but there's NO room for chairs
My livingroom would have bay windows & a fireplace for those cold winter nights
& a built in entertainment center.
My bedroom would have a walk in closet {the one I have now can barely be called a closet it's so small} & room enough for a queen size bed.
There would be a guest room that would also be big enough for a good size bed & walk in closet & a full private bathroom.
The main bathroom would have a seperate shower stall & a spa tub.
I would also have an office with a brand new computer & everything an office needs.

I love this thread! All of your dream homes sound so wonderful!
My "dream" home is a wonderful 5 bedroom home in hawaii on the ocean. My dream home would have all tile floors downstairs and upstairs soft plush carpet. My dream home would come complete with a maid, butler, and nanny. The beach would be right outside the door and There would be a treehouse with a swing set for the children.
The master bath would be as big as a bedroom and have a whirlpool tub, sauna, stand up shower and triple sink..... oh I have to stop now too much a dream,.,......
OK now for my practial "dream home... a paid off home in Hawaii 2 bedrooms close to the ocean, but far enough away so the price doesn't go too sky high

My dream home would be a two story log cabin with a wrap around porch. A big fireplace is a must! I would like the kitchen, living, and dining rooms to be all open. Lots of big windows so I can see the beautiful views from inside. Lots of rustic decor and hand made quilts. It doesn't have to be big, just nice and cozy. I want everyone that steps inside to feel at home.
Our land splits the road, so our plans are to one day build a house across the road on top of the hill. So maybe my dream will come true!!

My dream home would be a 5 or 6 bedroom Victorian house, complete with wraparound screened porch, beveled lead glass windows, and stained glass. Definitely with hardwood floors, which I LOVE. Upholstered window seats. Butler's pantry. Lots of storage. At least 2 bathrooms, one with an antique claw foot tub. I love the houses that have the regular staircase in the parlor AND the maid's staircase to the kitchen--that is SO handy! Huge kitchen with lots of counter space and a center island. Turn-of-the-century light fixtures that were once gas but are now electric. Large garage and fully fenced yard, with flower garden and pond.
Pocket doors between downstairs rooms, and all rooms wallpapered with antique wallpaper. Push-button light switches. Huge attic with it's own regular size staircase that I can use for storage.
There are a few houses very similar to what I want for sale in town right now...but we are not ready to buy yet

My dream home would be a large plantation style home. It would have wrap around porches on both ground floor and second levels and would have a large parlor for holiday gatherings, a large kitchen where I could prepare big family dinners for our extended family and friends and lots of cozy guest rooms for everyone. It would have a sewing room for me and a large workshop for DH.

Gretchen, You took the words right out of my mouth
Ours would be in the mountains preferrably. While we never plan on that, dh and I figure that one day we will build on an addition for either his or my mom or both and when that time comes we plan on replacing our existing siding with log siding.
