    Smile Decorating with Nate Berkus

A couple days ago on Oprah, Nate Berkus was on and he talked about decorating using real flowers or items you pick up from outside, such as tree branches, rocks, and such.

He stated how he disliked plastic flowers around the home, that he would rather decorate with items such as the above.

Does anyone use tree branches, rocks, shells, leaves, etc. to decorate your home and if you do, how do you do it?

I saw that episode. He wouldnt like it here, Oooppss i have one fake orchid plant. Oh well, But i do have a medium size oblong basket which is holding 3 candle holders with sand in them and surrounding those i have lots and lots of shells, coral and a starfish, some bought some found on the beach out here. Also in all my plant containers i either have river rock, moss, or found rocks & shells. Those are much nicer too look at then the soil, i think.

I'd like to decorate with Nate. He'd look gorgeous sitting on my sofa.

It's funny that you mentioned this show because as I was vacuuming yesterday I was thinking that I'm going to have to get rid of my fake palm tree because of what Nate said!

I do a ton of decorating with shells, sea beans, and se glass. For now I have them all in various glass containers (either vase type or jars with cork lids). That keeps little hands out of them. I also have some driftwood I've found on the beach displayed.

I can't edit my post - that should be sea glass, not se glass. LOL

Oh, forgot to answer your question. What I do have in my home now is sea shells/beans which are in a lovely container in sand with candles in the centre. I don't have branches....well, grapevine wreaths at Christmas but not year round. My houseplants are the only living thing besides us in the house!
