Decorating with an eye to future resale value
My experiance with moves is, that at the last minute, you find out, yup you are moving, and you go into a panic driven overdrive getting it all fixed up, projects finished, decluttered, even painted in a matter of a week.
What if, just what if (no I'm not moving) we all looked at our houses and made a little list.
What would you do if you had to list the house next month?
What SHOULD you do if you want the best dollar for it?
Experiance has taught me that you get the house all spiffy just before moving. Clean, clutter free, decorated sparingly but tastefully. It all works.
Then you move.
hmmmm
what if we share our little lists, and gradually as time and money and opportunity permit, do the things on the list.
AND LIVE IN OUR LITTLE SLICE OF HEAVEN???
what if???

I'll start:
Finish that everlasting perennial bathroom project! (instead of yapping about it on here!)
Paint the peeling painted trim around the front door, fix that light fixture that never sat straight against the slope of the aluminum siding and paint the front door. Get a new mailbox and house numbers.
Strip the wallpaper and put up a nice creamy neutral tone thruout. NOT builder beige, more in the coffee with milk in it shade.
Paint the dark fake wood doors and trim and baseboards a nice light cream to white shade to increase the sense of light and flow.
Get this computer room cleaned up inspite of the shrieking and screaming of a wounded dh.
Dejunk the garage, this time of all that camping equipment the kids kept having a fit about keeping! One is launched already, and the last one leaves on Aug 1.
(I am not in favour of boomerang kids moving home so I plan to get rid of their junk, which they know. Deadline is END OF OCTOBER!!!!)

A couple years ago I put into practice a Flylady suggestion. I can't remember what she called it but the theory was to go through your house, looking at it like your going to be putting it up for sale. To make a list of everything you wanted to do even if you didn't have the money at the time.
I did this 1 year prior to putting our house on the market. Now, I didn't realize we were going to sell at the time. So during the year I did things like decluttering, painted the bathroom, kitchen, living and dining room.
When we actually decided to sell, all I had to do was do some more decluttering, I boxed alot of stuff up and rented a storage unit. We didn' have a garage.
This was one of the most easiest moves I've made

I know what you mean. It's her realtor mission. I'm another flylady fan.
Way to go, on your last move! That takes some doing. I kind of was thinking along the lines of something like a realtor mission.
They really do work, and you proved it.
