Question Do you use doilies to decorate with?

I love using doilies for decorating. The older the better.

I only have one and I love it. It was a gift, made by the wife of dh's former commander. I wish I had more and I wish I had the patience to make them.
I tried that heart one the Cheryl posted a few days ago and ended up in knots

I have lots I have made, but don't use them much anymore. My kids think they are for sliding across tables on!

yes. I love the look of home made lace against polished dark wood.

They are also handy like an apron is handy to protect the back of a couch. They used to be called antimacassars for that reason.

In Victorian times men wore a hair oil called Macassar hair oil in large greasy quantities.

To prevent that all too inevitable oil slick on the backs of upholstered furniture the practical, man loving Victorian lady crocheted herself doilies by the dozen, and used them to protect her furniture.

Plus it just looks lacy and pretty on top of navy or burgundy or forest green or any of the deep rich Victorian colours.

I have a couple, I use them under lamps and things to keep them from scratching my furniture.

I have a few... I have one on the back of the wing back chair in the corner, and one on the shelf under the porcelin dolls.. I also have them on each of the end tables and on the shelf of my computer desk.... I have more, I just don't use them much.. Most of mine are from estate sales, since most of my grandmothers things went to the older family members when she died.. I was only seven, and the youngest of the cousins... So they got to pick everything, and I got nothing. I'll get over it....
