Painted furniture
I'm willing to bet most people do this, but for people like me, who are moving into their first homes, I have something to share. My momma helped me decorate my bedroom when I was a teen-ager, and I have such nice memories I want to talk about it. I don't think I've ever bought a new piece of furniture. I probably never will. But I do have some nice, nice pieces. And I'm not a genius artist, either. If you are decorating on a very tight budget, here's what Mom helped me do:
1. Buy quality wooden furniture from thrift stores, or better yet, tag sales. (Always bargain them down!)
2. Sand it. Just get the finish halfway off. If it's sch lacked then you'll need a special thinner.
3. Ordinary acrylics usually work for me. Paint a primer, let dry, then use a color, or just leave white.
4. Presto- a bunch of mismatched furniture matches if you paint it the same color! Your new apartment looks so chic!

Cool, thanks for the tips! I always buy furniture at thrift stores or flea markets and I am a good haggler, lol

I like painted furniture too. In most cases I prefer it to natural wood. But thats all part of prim decorating.
The buffet I got at a yard sale for 15 bucks, it is sold wood. Very good quality. I painted it black.
The tv cabinet my mom gave me and it was all scratched up. SO I crackle painted it white yrs ago to go with my country look. But now I want something more primitive so I am thinking about giving it a new pain job.
