    Angry I'm declaring war

Ok I have to say that I have lived in *this* house for most of my life. It's the house I grew up, we bought it from my parents when they moved away 27 years ago....so it would stand to reason that I have been over and over this house with a fine tooth comb on many occaission. I have 'mouse proofed' this house. I've been feeling pretty darned snug about the fact that every.single.possible mouse entrance has been steel wooled, dry walled, steel wooled and grey taped, etc. and so on.....it has been at least 7 or 8 years since I've seen the tell tale signs of a mouse.

    (hold your ears please)

DAGGUMMITT! I have a mouse (ok I know you never have A mouse, you in all actuality have MICE but for the sake of argument we're calling it a mouse...humour me)!!! I've set traps twice now. The first time the son of a biscuit eater crawled all over it.....don't ask me how I know, if you've ever had a mouse-you KNOW how I know and it didn't trip. Last night I awaken to a noise and I actually smile in bed, half asleep, thought 'I got you!'. A little later I heard another....smiled again and thought and 'I got mamma mouse too!'. Well....this morning I skip to the kitchen to check 1 trap and no.....hasn't been tripped. What? So I go to the laundry room and guess what? Oh it's been tripped alright......tripped and actually moved about 3 feet, in around a little barrier I made to keep Heidi out of the trap...and NO MOUSE! I think I'm dealing with mutant, ninja, mice here. I've never been so frustrated with my mice catching abilities in my entire life! We have a man in town who has a sign on his car about 'The Better Mouse Trap'. He's made one that everyone raves about. I'm going to see him today. These little suckers better make peace with their maker.....if you kwim. Oh, and excuse my french I'm just so frustrated.......No to go and reset those old fashioned traps....let's just see if I can't set em where they're so sensitve I can barely set em down without snapping....

(In my best Elmer Fudd whisper) Be vewy, vewy qwiet.........I'm hunting wodents................

    teeheeheee!!!!
That is a funny way of telling a yucky story!

We used the humane traps... put the scraps of food inside the trap... voila.. door closed behind them.
They usually run along side of a wall or cupboard... so slip that trap there... they'll run right into it.

YIKES!!! I would NOT want to find a 'snap trap with a mouse in it.. eeeeeeeewwwwwwww!! LOL

Good luck, we HAD a rodent problem in our last house we rented, the landlord was pretty good at getting them exterminated but those rascals are a pain in the butt when they gain access to your pantry.

Let us know how things go!

Use peanut butter on the traps and really mash it in there. They have to work a little harder to get it out and therefore stay on the trap a little longer.

And if you don't want to deal with the "snap trap with a mouse in it" put the trap in a small paper bag to begin with and then toss the bag, trap and dead mouse all together.

Hah! Being up here at our cabin in da woods, this whole thread hits home for me. We have struggled for 12 years with this problem. They are persistent little buggers if nothing else.

DH finally went down under the crawlspace and plugged up every place he even thought they could be getting in with screening (like in your window screens) + some of this foaming junk that hardens and makes it harder (not impossible--they can chew through almost anything)--and he put the foam in and around the screening. THEN he put D-Con (not very humane, sorry FrugalNurse) poison all over down there. WE also keep D-Con under the beds and chairs--NOT recommended if you have little kids aorund who check under there!

Reason is--we are not always here--it is a retirement cabin. When we are gone, they have a great big ole' party here, I swear. I have to disinfect everything when I come back. Ewww.

You can't set traps of any kind when you are going to be gone a few months--you come back to a few rotting corpses and a very bad smell, not to mention FLYS because they have used the corpses to breed&feed. The D-Con makes them thirsty so they'll run outside to die. Better than in your house.

Worst year--we came here to 22 corpses around the house everywhere, even one who died in the toilet. And they were all at various stages of decay. Again--TMI. THAT was enough to make us very inhumane in the killing of our little houseguests. Yuck. Talk about major cleanup. (w/bleach)

In November, we had a rodent problem, so I know your pain. I was doing laundry and I accidently left clothes in my washer. I opened up the lid so that I could wash them again and a rat was in there. The thing ate through about 13 piece of clothing. I was ticked to say the least. Anyways, I do hope that you catch the mouse and you don't have more than just the one.

It's those sneaky band of bandito mice crossing the border and wreaking havoc wherever they go. You are going to have to be especially crafty to thwart these fiends. I eccho the peanut butter trick, creamy or crunchy.
    Good luck!

Traps are baited with p.butter...I'm awaiting the familiar little "snap" I'll keep you all posted on the status of the ninja-bandito band of mousies. Thanks Dar, you're always good for grins

We used to have a mice problem. It ended after we aquired the cats. Apparently, having 5 cats, really helps with the mice problem. We know at least one of them is a mouser because we have seen her with two of them (they were a snack, eeeewwww!!!).

Good luck with your ninja mice!
