    Default Cleaning Shower Door Tracks

I was horrified when I read on Realtor dot com that my agent had stated how clean the house is. What? My house?! I have never thought of myself as much of a housekeeper.

As soon as I read that I started cleaning some more.

One problem area is the shower tracks for the glass doors. I have cleaned them but there are areas that are almost impossible to get to.

Any suggestions of non or low toxic ways to clean. I have heard of using hydrogen peroxide as it bubbles away the soap scum and build up.

    Any suggestions appreciated. Thank you.

I have seen many things tried for cleaning those hard to get tracks, and here are a few "natural" ways that I know of.

Plug the drain holes with tape or paper towel. Fill the track with vinegar and let it sit for awhile. Unplug the drain hole and rinse. To get in the tight corners use a small screw driver or a knife. It makes quick work of the nasty corners that don't want to come clean.

You can also pour in some coke-cola, let it sit and rinse just like the vinegar.

Any old tooth brush works good for the tracks also, and makes it less hard on your hands.

Be careful and make sure that the finish on the tracks won't be ruined by cleaning agents on them. Test it in a spot where it won't be seen to make sure it won't take the finish off.

If you are left with the water spots on the tracks and want to get rid of them when the agent is there, use a little lemon oil on a rag and wipe it along the track. It will make them go away, and it looks really nice and clean.

    Hope this helps.

    CLR.

When we sold our house I cleaned all our 30 year old faugets with it. The realtor told me not to replace them because even though they were old, they were spotless!

Use a spray cleaner to soak any dried on gunk...then scrub out the tough to reach areas with an old toothbrush.....rinse.

Don't know about those tracks but but I used the following on sliding glass door tracks:

    cut lemon wedges

I actually used the lemon wedges and scrubbed with them......the citric acid I guess.....anyway afterwords I just rinsed with warm water....worked for me.

    Good Luck,

The only way to get to those hard to reach places is to remove the doors. Mine lift right out and I use heated vinegar and water in a spray bottle to clean the tub, shower doors, and tile too. My DH has asthma, and bleach based products work great, but they're a big no-no around here.

Anyways, it works for me and I hope it does for you too!

I had not thought about actually removing the doors. I'll see if that is possible. Thank you for the information.

I have found magic erasers will clean anything an everything in a shower/tub.
Scrub, then rinse, and sometimes dry if the dried water spots will show up.

I have had shower door track issues as well. When we moved into our apartment they were just hideous. I wish I could say they have gotten better, but they haven't. I've tried soaking vinegar, peroxide, alcohol, spray cleaners, scrubbing with toothbrushes, sos pads etc..etc. Nothing seems to work! I've noticed as well there are pits? on the tracks although from what I cannot tell..it's very umm odd. I've never used magic eraser before, is it a better scrubber than an SoS pad or about the same?
