Default Using Fleece In Windows Works!!!

I got 2 fleece blankets free using Extra Bucks at CVS a few weeks ago. I decided to pin the up in my bedroom for two reasons:

    1. to block out extra light. DH sleeps during the day.

    2. Save on heat by preventing drafts.

It worked! We no longer feel the drafts and they do help block the light. DH is pretty impressed with my idea. We live in a house that was built in 1900. The windows are all replacement windows, but the casings are still pretty old. So we get drafts. I used push pins and just hung the fleece surrounding the casing. You cannot even tell, because the drapes cover them! Hopefully this will save on heating too, as our room was the coldest in the house last year

Good idea. We may need to try this this winter. We just bought a house that was built in 1910 and we have no heating system. It is going to be a cold winter.

If I remember correctly, many, many years ago when we rented (we knew we were going to be transferred to another state after dh's training) I bought fleece fabric, plain colored on clearance and I sewed the top and bottom and slid one of those spring tension rod (thrift store for under a buck each) through the sewed edges and fit it into the window. I like to let the sun in when it's a nice sunny day and it was easier to just lift the bottom rod and stick it up towards the top of the window etc than to keep putting in and taking out tacks.

~I use fleece and wool blankets on the windows too where I haven't yet made window quilts. The window quilts do work better(and look better because they match!) but our windows are original to the house(1960) and in bad shape so we need the extra thickness. I also use rolled up mismatched pillowcases as draft-stoppers on the sills. I really need to make more quilts and some presentable looking draft-stoppers, lol!~

I used fleece to keep the heat out this summer and it worked great. So here is another thumbs up for insulation of fleece!

I think I would use this method if it were any room other than our bedroom. But because DH sleeps during the day and we never just "hang out" in there, I don't mind having these two windows closed off from the sun.

I've used the same method englishcottage1 did with the tension rods top and bottom. It worked great. Since I'm in apartments, it was good too because it involved no extra holes in walls or window casings.

I have been adding some extra fleece blankets to our OLD windows in the rooms that always colder in the winter and they save us money on our heating bill. This year I'm thinking about adding them to all of our windows, just want some sunlight in on those sunny days, and I'll think I will try using the tension rods on the windows I want the sunlight from.

    Thanks for ideas!!

Thanks for posting this. I was thinking about making white fleece curtains for my living room to keep out the chill from the big window in there. It's nice to know it will work.
