I'm not waiting for tommorrow ( or someday) anymore
I'm not waiting for someday anymore. When it comes to the fixing up sprucing up the house.
No I'm not going to rush out and buy things but I don't want to wait for the money to be available either. So I'm going to do what I can.
The first thing was Fix the blinds.
A few years ago my youngest was learning to use scissors and experimented on what they can do on string my cutting the strings on the blinds. So a few slats on the blinds were , well hanging down, and looked messy, uncared for. I told Hubby back then that IF I thought hard about it I could probably restring the blinds. He said, He didn't think that would look nice and that we needed to think about replacing the blinds anyway or maybe curtains. I didn't need to restring the blinds he didn't think it could do it.(I read that to mean don't do it)
Well, I think those blinds and other "waiting for" and "waiting to" have started to weigh on my mind/heart affecting how I feel about my home and how we are doing.
So I gave up and brought out some Embroidery string ( leftover from a high school economics class - yes years ago) and knotted/ restrung those blinds back up. Several days of Hubby not noticing. I pointed out what I had done.
He was impressed and said "YOU do wonderful things when you put your mind to it." Then he asked why I hadn't done that years ago. I reminded him of what he said. He laughed and said I can prove him wrong on home improvement anytime I want.
Hm mm Is that a challenge or encouragement? LOL
Total cost of the fix. $0
So now I'm not waiting for someday or later when we can buy replacements. I'm going to look for other $0 or low cost fixes to things and spruce things up around the house. At $0 or low cost an improvement is great even if it is only until the someday When we find what we want, or have enough $ happens. Who knows, the repair might even prevent the need to buy an replacement
Maybe the next project will be the other experiment she did with scissors and blinds. I'm thinking tape.

I like the dare, I've been dared many times by my hubby!! The sad fact of the matter was that we had all these things that needed to be done around the house and he refused to do them, he had the time, he was just being lazy!!!
So, on day I installed a freakin shower, the tub, the enclosure, the new faucets, the new glass doors LMAO
Once I did that, he got real busy, real fast on all the other projects so as not to look like the " Un handy" one here!!!!
Good for you, I'm cheering you on!!

I think just because we are frugal doesn't mean we have to wait all the time to fix things. There are so many ingenius ways to do so with little cost. Good for you on such a great attitude. Great job!!

I have a friend who doesn't work by choice, but yet complains that she can't have this or do that to her home. In her eyes, unless it is new what's the sense in taking care of it.
One day she told me, well your house is a lot nicer than mine that's why you care for it more. I told her back before we did a lot of work to our house I always cleaned, got curtains and things at yard sales to spruce the place up (still do this hee hee), and I even painted the whole house when I was pregnant with some cheap paint to make it look nicer.
Get creative! The sense of accomplishment will be awesome! She felt like doing anything temporary was a waste of time. Not so!!!! This is your nest and you are making it cozy! Have fun!

I have been doing this for years! It might take a lot longer then just going out and buying what you want but in the end you can be proud. Good for you.

WTG! I know this makes you feel good, and it should. I think necessity makes us much more creative. Good luck on your next project.

Good on you! Go for it. I'm starting a similar project around here.
NVMommy, I wish my DH took such things as a challenge. If I wait for him it doesn't get done, if I do it myself it is officially moved to MY list of responsibilities. He just is so not the handy guy, so I'm going to have to be. I guess maybe that's the trade off, since he IS a devoted husband and father.

Congrats on a job well done. I love the way Jeanna put it.....
" I think necessity makes us much more creative."
Put your self to the test, you'll be surprised what you can do when you have to.
There are a ton of ideas out on the internet, google something like,
"low cost decorating", budget decorating, or something like it and you can find so many low cost ideas out there that will really help. Most cost nothing and have you start with what you already have. Anyone can go buy things to do it with, but getting creative will help you make your home a "one of a kind" that you can be proud of!
