Default My Compiled List of Simplified Cleaning Products

I spent about half an hour thumbing through my Reader's Digest Homemade book. There's an entire chapter devoted to cleaning products for the house and car. I figured that I'd scan the recipes of the things I use to clean both the house and car, then make the list and publish it here. This will, no doubt, go in my book also as my stockpile basics cleaning list.

    Ingredients:

    white vinegar
    rubbing alcohol
    citrus peels (orange, lime, etc)
    clear ammonia
    mild dishwashing liquid
    lemon juice
    Borax
    baking soda
    soap flakes
    washing soda
    pine oil
    essential oils
    cloves
    cinnamon sticks
    dried orange peel
    olive oil
    linseed oil
    glycerin
    limes
    16-oz and 32-oz spray bottles

These are the key ingredients in the following recipes:

    Basic and Super Window/Glass Cleaner
    Citrus Disinfectant
    Multipurpose Cleaner
    Wall and Cabinet Cleaner
    Interior Wall Cleaner
    Pine Floor Cleaner
    Carpet Freshener
    Pie Spice Room Freshener
    Lemon Oil Furniture Polish
    Cabinet Polish
    Spot Mold and Mildew Remover
Paint and Tile Mold and Mildew Remover
    Leather and Luggage Mold Remover
    Automatic Dishwasher Detergent
    Dishwashing Liquid
    Microwave Oven Cleaner
    Basic Oven Cleaner
    Oven Floor Cleaner
    Scouring Powder
    Fabric Softener
    Laundry Soap
    Stain Remover
    Washer Disinfectant
    Multipurpose Disinfectant Cleaner
    Soft Scrub
    Nontoxic Bathroom Cleaner
    Showerhead Cleaner
    Rust Remover
Toilet Bowl Cleaner (both Nontoxic and Tougher)
    Drain Opener

I just need to find where I can get washing soda, linseed oil, glycerin, and pine oil.

Once I buy all of the ingredients and compile the cost to make each recipe, I'll post that here too.

linseed oil you may be able to find in a real hardware store. ( not a super box store like Home Depot, Lowes, etc), glycerin might be at your pharmacy, or maybe even at a walmart, kmart, etc. Washing soda should be in the laundry isle in a store.

wouldn't wanna share those recipes for those cleaning products would cha???

The frug is right on with where to get most of those! You may also find pine oil at a real hardware store or even a furniture store that sells cleaners. Pine oil on it's own is a great furinture polish!

I've been searching for citric acid and can't find it anywhere. I think I am going to have to purchase it online (I'm going to be using it in bath muffins...but it's also used in homemade cleaning products, so I'm surprised it wasn't on your list anywhere).

I found pure glycerine at the pharmacist's window once. The pharmacist told me that I could melt down some suppositories to get it as well. Not sure if that is cheaper in the end. You might want to ask the pharmacist.

I'm more than happy to share some of these recipes with you all.

I'll have to see where we have a real hardware store around here that's easy to get to. The next time I'm at Superstore's pharmacy, I'll check then too. I need to take ODS' prescription over for a refill anyways at the end of the week. I'll also have to check Superstore's laundry aisle and see if I can find the washing soda. I know they have Borax, so Borax is an easy find.

I just found washing soda at my grocery store Publix. I would not have looked there except some great posters here mentioned they got some there. I bought 3 boxes @ 2.19 each.

All I could find at Walmart was a very large baking soda.

    Look what I found!

Scroll down the left side with all of the cleaning products listed and citric acid is there.
