Default do you think it's just us.....

or do you think others on the 'outside' are jumping in on this "i am sick of my clutter and i must declutter all this stuff in my house..."

are we having a 'de-cluttering revolution' or something ?????

i sure hope so...and i sure hope it ends up at our favorite thrift stores....(so WE can drag it home)...lol

I think the pendulum had to swing back sooner or later. We've been immersed in this "acquisition phase" for a really long time as a country. More, newer, shinier= better.

Now people feel financial guilt..and perhaps a bit of financial "pinch" too.

Part of them expiating or cleansing their guilt is to get rid of al those shiny, new things which have grown dim and dusty over the years and now just fill their homes with clutter, which they are (right now) seeing as monuments and reminders of past financial guilt.

    That's my 2 cents anyway..

We don't feel guilty and haven't been in an acquisition phase, really. Part of it for us is we had three estates dumped on us at once and are slowly going through all that excess to get rid of some things. Part of it is we picked up a lot of stuff for camping, much of it to 'get by with' till we found something better, then found something better but didn't get rid of the 'get by with' stuff. Part of it is just the usual clutter that tends to accumulate if you don't stay on top of it.

We've been de-cluttering for a while now, and it has nothing to do with the economy.

I have not noticed any more of a decluttering around the people that I am in routine contact with. They are not buying more but they don't seem to be getting rid of any more than usual.

I try to routinely declutter (Thank you AmyBoz for all these years of leading and cheerleading on our annual declutterings) . It keeps my home from getting overwhelmed by "things" and keeps my home environment fresh and sunny.

I declutter for the benefit of my family. I don't want our things to end up owning us. I have noticed a lot of my friends also really working on decluttering their homes.

I have been in a serious de-cluttering mode of a while. It has taken a lot of time carefully going through "things". While I haven't de-cluttered because of the economy I see others who are. There is a swing the other way. Seems like people are starting to realize you don't need the latest, shiniest, newest, etc. Seeing all the stuff I had collecting dust made me see what a real waste of money those purchases were. Hopefully I can keep myself de-cluttered and focused on what I feel is important in life.

We tend to go the other way when we're totally broke. Then, we don't get rid of anything, because anything we get rid of we may not have the money to replace if we would need to for some reason.

My decluttering is due to moving in Oct, and getting settled in my house. Also realizing that I am one person with one lifetime, there is no way I can cross stitch all those patterns, sew all that material and scrap all that paper. It needs to go to someone that will "get to using it"
I also feel much more at peace with less clutter and a smaller stack of projects to do.

My decluttering is cyclical. A couple of times every year, I get a bug to get rid of the extra "stuff" in my life. If I don't do anything about it, it goes away. But normally, I give into it and go into what my friends call my "minimalist" mode.

madhen i do that too....i wish i could 'stay' in minimalist mode...coz then i wouldn't have to keep doing this over and over....i don't buy/spend when here and it sure makes life easier....i get that way with my eating too....i gain a few lbs (like i have since i found this place...lol) and then i 'go into the mode'....stop eating anything...drop the lbs....am happy for a little while...then back into the cycle again....i guess i am lucky (well maybe not actually) that when the OCD kicks in in full force i can run with it.....whether its shedding 'junk or lbs...'....ugh.....
