Default 'Me' trying to ruthlessly de-clutter and simplify

This old thing! I haven't used it in years! I should toss/donate this!

Weeeeelllll, you never know......what if THIS happened (insert absurd scenario here), or THOSE people (cousins who you haven't seen in 14 years) come over and I want to do/make......

Now you KNOW that isn't going to happen, and you ALWAYS do this, Cheryl, you start to declutter with really good intentions of being ruthless and tossing ANYTHING that isn't truly useful or loved!!

Yeah, but remember when you tossed those plaid bell-bottoms and then your sister threw a '70's themed party and you would have killed to have those back! And that fondue pot that someone gave you for Christmas that you threw away, and then wished you had back, when fondue came back in style.......

But......I get so tired of all this STUFF and clutter, and I PROMISED myself I'd try to do something about it, and ........

Here is what I ask myself when I am trying to purge.

    Do I Love it?
    Do I Need it?
When in doubt throw it out!

I can so relate! Trouble is, DH and I are both this way, but I'm worse. We are currently (finally) finishing the upstairs of our house, and I don't want anything going back upstairs that isn't going to stay, so it's time to cull some more.

that looks an awful lot like the conversation that goes through my head while decluttering too.

At least, Cheryl, you are having the coversations with yourself. I can merrily and quite easily ignore the clutter - that's right, not even see it until I MAKE myself stop and look at the reality.

I always get in the mood to purge when we are going off island. Keep your postings coming and we'll all get through this!!

Well, I did get some purging done (slowly) at home, and now we are at the cabin (our summer retirement little place) and I can begin here! LOL! Oh, joy! Even though we only built this place 13 years ago, it has become a cluttered nightmare! (mostly thanks to dh's love of techno-junk.) It is much better than home, though. If I could only convince dh to part with some stuff.
