Default How do you organize your kids toys

Let's say my two old is blessed in this department. I cleaned out and donated all the baby toys and tried to organize again as he several new ones.

This is how it is now, mind you my house is small. I have one of those big tupparware with the lid in the living with the ones he likes the most. It still seems cluttered and I don't like clutter.

In his room I have two really cute sorta big wicker baskets that matches the room filled with other toys. We keep his room shut during the day because he is at the climbing stage and wants to climb his dresser. lol and just to be safe. I rotate the toys around because he spends most of his time in the living room. Would love to have like a play room for everything so he could go crazy with all the toys, but no room in this house.

I can't think of a better system, but if anyone has any suggestion to better organize toys, that would be great. Of course they are all over by the end of the day and I try to pick them up, because stepping on legos in the dark is not fun and plus the clutter drives me crazy!

Do you have an attic or basement where you could store some of the toys and then change them out?

When my kids were that age we had 2 of the Little Tikes toy boxes filled with toys. Also had stuffed animal "hammocks" in their rooms. I used lots of those little Rubbermaid/Sterlite containers for the smaller toys (eg Lego, crayons, etc)

We do have a basement but that is my teens room and it's very small as well. Actually I do have one of those hammocks that was given to me that I never have put up. My son is a stuffed animal person and he would go crazy if he could see them and not be able to grab them. lol.

Maybe I should just narrow down to less toys in the living room so it doesn't look so cluttered to me and keep the rest in his room. That is the only thing I think would work here.

Maybe a short bookcase with some bigger toys out and smaller things in bins or baskets on the bottom shelf the same in his room, I always found toys get played with more ( and broken less) when they are out of toy boxes. We use those wire storage cubes because we can change them according to new toys if we need to. Hth

Our house is tiny. We rotated toys. We put an assortment in the big tupperware containers . When he got bored w/one set of toys we just swapped containers. I used to store the smaller plastic containers under the bed. Also have a shelf that we put bins on w/smaller toys. At Christmastime I always told my boys that we needed to donate the toys they were "too big" for to make room for the new toys Santa would bring.

We are lucky that our kids are older now, so we don't have a "toy box" in the living room anymore! That used to drive me crazy, becuase there were always toys everywhere!

I have one of those 3 drawer plastic "dresser" things that toys go in, in their room. Then they have a shelf for books/toys, and the big stuff like remote control cars and things, go under the bed. And the rule now is, if something new comes in, something old goes out. Plus, the majority of my kids toys are outside toys (bikes, sports stuff, etc.), so we have a big rubbermaid tote in the garage and one on the patio for sports stuff and outdoor toys. The key is just to get the kids to put the stuff in the bins when they are done playing with it!
