R.I.P. my chair
I lost my recliner last night. It finally wore out and refused to recline. It was only twenty-one years old. My wife had it before we met. I don't ask for much. All I have that I call my own in the house is my chair, end table and lamp. Everything else is my wife's domain. I loved that chair. We spent many wonderful evenings together. It looks so sad, sitting there slightly askew. I wonder if I should dispatch it humanely with a bullet to the headrest.

Come on up to Baltimore - we've got an old recliner we're trying to get rid of...we'll give it to you.
You might want to reupholster it though.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I totally understand. I had a sectional that I had a very long relationship with. I am still sad that it is gone. Everyone will tell you just get another one and you'll feel better. They'll be wrong, at first, then one day you will realize that it's ALMOST as good, but fondly remember your lost love.

I can understand.
I bought a livingroom set because I fell in love with the recliner alone. It saw me through two babies, where I nursed them for countless hours and rocked them and myself to sleep watching I Love Lucy reruns into the night. One night while passed out from sheer exhaustion, holding my infant daughter, the whole back let go in one fell swoop and there we were on the floor behind the recliner quite suddenly. I miss it lots. If the only problem with yours is that is simply wont recline and can't be fixed, but is otherwise still ok, I am sure someone, somewhere would appreciate it. Good enough for a chair at a hunting camp? Just not sure about the bullet to the headrest, would it be quick death and could you stand it if it weren't?

A real bummer when we have something for so long, all molded to only our body, comfy, cozy, just the right lumps and bumps in it.......and then it up and DIES on us!!!

I'm sorry for your loss!! I know how comfy those old chairs can be. I hope you can find another one just as comfy. Don't rush into anything. It is a big commitment. Make sure it is the one for you! Again, I am sorry for your loss, it is a sad day!

When I read your story fixer, it reminded me of the old chair that belongs to the father on the t.v. show Fraiser.
So sorry about your loss though.

update:
soooo, what kind of recliner did you get?11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

I'm sorry for your loss - but now you get to find the next perfect recliner. Hopefully you can find one made with the same quality!

I'm sorry for your loss
The recliner I have has been around my entire life. It was one of the first things my parents bought when they married ( a bed and a matching recliners) They were passed down to me when Hubby and I were married.
I will be so sad when my recliners time is up. They are currently 43 years old."Everyday as your walking down the street, everybody that you met has an original point of view" -Arthur PBS
