removing blue-green ring in toilet?
How can I remove a bluish-green ring stain in my porcelain toilet bowl? I have tried Bar Keeper's Friend, vinegar, and baking soda; also a combination of vinegar and baking soda with so success. any suggestions?
Thanks!

you need some acid. CLR will do. i get the same problem from mineral deposits.

it's something you buy at the grocery store. it's usually way up high or way low on the shelves. it is hydrochloric acid.

You can also use a pumice stone.

Thanks for the tips everyone! I did try a pumice stone and it looks like it might work with lots of elbow grease
I will look for the CLR and the Lysol TB cleaner too, since it might be a bit easier. Thanks again

regarding the pumice stone, that will wear away the toilet. would you rather spend a couple of bucks for a bottle of CLR or mega bucks and incovenience for a new toilet?

I wondered about that. I bought the pumice stone because Jeff Campbell (I think that's the name) recommended it in his Speed Cleaning book. I certainly can't afford a new toilet!

Oooh, I so needed this thread. Ours had gotten bad and I got the majority off with Kaboom with Oxi-Clean. I must confess, I only bought it b/c 1. I was excited that you spray it, it's blue, then turns white when it's clean, which meant that little to no effort was involved on my part and 2. Billy Mays loved Oxi-Clean and I loved Billy Mays.
Anyways, like I said, I got most of it off, but I have a trace of it left. Ill have to try the pumice stone. ETA, hadn't thought about the wear and tear on the toilet with the pumice stone. I may spring for the CLR.McD

The no effort part sounds good
I've added the Kaboom to my list of things to look for. Maybe I can find one of the cleaners mentioned, at least. Town is small and there is not a great variety of stores. Mostly Walmart and a couple more grocery stores.
I have plain oxy-clean. I wonder if it would work? It doesn't mention toilets on the label.

The best thing I have used is called, "The Works". It sells at Walmart and Dollar Tree and runs about $1.12. It will take anything off!

Hi,
Just went to ehow.com and cleaning toilets; several people commented on the pumice stone if you would like to read their experience.

There are several products that with different names - CLR, The Works (for toilets) and Sanivac (for toilets), but the ingredient is hydrocloric acid. Add to toilet, swish, let sit, swish again, and flush - POOF and it is gone! I would not use a pumice stone or anything abrasive on the toilet. You will damage the surface.
Many years ago ex-hubby and I bought a brand new house that had been sitting for three years with water in the toilets. I tried EVERYTHING! I thought we were going to have to replace the toilet. I bought Sanivac and it worked.Mary

kaboom will not remove mineral deposits. need a strong acid.
oxyclean is an oxidizer, which supplies oxygen, which will not remove mineral deposits.
calcium carbonate plus hydrochloric acid > calcium chloride plus hydrogen carbonate (bubbles)
need hydrochloric acid, "the works" or CLR is great.11% gross to retirement
