This is only semi-related to the topic, but here goes.

When we lived in Chicago, our neighbor was a paramedic. They work 24 hours on/ 48 hours off and most of them have second jobs because of the schedule.

Anyway, our neighbor relocated animals - raccoons in the attic, that sort of thing. He had a couple of live traps, researched what the animals liked to eat etc.

He charged a fair chunk of change to come and set the trap, come back a day or two later and drive the captured animal to a nature preserve and let them loose. His only expenses were the traps, bait and a pair of leather gloves.

If I'm not mistaken, he told me that at certain times of the year, he made more $$ doing this than being a unionized medic/firefighter!!

    Something to think about!

Yup, that is how I saw my first mole (?). When I was a kid saw my cat looking and pawing at something very intently. And there it was a mole. Had the weirdest looking star shaped nose. The cat went away and I got a good look at a live mole.

Yup, those cats would leave us "presents" at the front door. One in particular would cry and cry until we opened the door. Mostly birds but sometimes baby rabbits. The baby rabbits we called our neighbor who would take them and rehabilitate. Once the door was open much grossing out took place on human side. Cat was way to proud about the whole thing.

We had a champion "voler" once. The cat, Miss Boo, never caught a mouse or bird (that we knew about), but after she discovered the voles, there were at least two offered up to us on the patio every morning. They are definitely prolific, or we would have run out of voles long before she ran of enthusiasm.

At our old house our dogs would dig up the yard until they eventually dug up a mole and they'd play with it til it was dead. We caught one live once. Cute little critter in a way with big, paddle feet like Madhen said. Stunk to high heaven though! Whew!
