Do Moles ever come into homes?
I saw there was a mouse in my trap (yay!), but when I picked
the trap up, it didn't look like a mouse. It's fur was thicker,
almost mink like and it's nose was more pointy, and the tail
wasn't nearly as long as what I generally see.
I got to wondering if it might be a mole. I didn't know what they
looked like for sure, so I did a google search and the tips of their
noses are a different color from the rest of them. The *?* in
the trap was all one color.
Do moles ever come into homes? Still not sure what I have, but
don't think it is a mouse. You have succeeded in life when all you really want is only what you really need.

Google VOLES and see if that is it. It sounds like it. They 'resemble' a mouse.......smaller and more pointy nose, also with a little shorter and 'skinnier' tail.
Yep........EVERYTHING will come into a house........mice, voles, and even moles but not so much, they are more 'underground'.....YUK!
Seems to be a SURPLUS of mice and SPIDERS this year! UGH!

Franny,
I looked up voles. They are CUTE, but rather round, and their
noses aren't as pointed as what I have. I then looked at pictures
of baby rats and mice but they have big rounded ears whereas
my ? does not.
The dark thick fur looks like the mole picture, but it doesn't have
the same nose as Irene described.
Will keep on lookin.
Thanks for the suggestions!!You have succeeded in life when all you really want is only what you really need.

We had a star nosed mole in our house once. What a freaky looking creature. It got lodged between our window panes. Luckily it got back out too. Is your bsmt. damp?

MaryCarney,
Thank you! You were right. I googled them right after I saw
your reply. There were different kinds and some didn't look
like what I have and then I saw the Northern short-tailed and
that is it, or at least the way he looks. I've never seen one
before.
Thanks again to all of you who tried to help me identify it! I
learned some things checking into your suggestions. You have succeeded in life when all you really want is only what you really need.

Ugly little spuds, aren't they!!
Have no clue how they got in our house last fall, but we had a couple of them. The funny thing is, they kind of undulate as opposed to scurry!! They are apparently big fans of peanut butter, because that is how we lured them to the traps.

Glad you figured out what it was!

Voles!! Interesting! I get moles in the yard occasionally, but the have those flat paddle feet that make them very obvious. Only ones I actually see are the ones my dog gets to before I do.

YES! They will come in the house (and voles)! One time, my sons GF was sitting on our couch with cargo pants on, and a vole climbed on into one of her lower pockets! It was when we had some early spring flooding - we had everything in the house, opossoms in the attic even! Real animal house that season, didn't sleep a wink!

As much damage as they cause outside, I would rather see them in the house.
