Default Washed Sofa Cushion Covers & Pillow Covers

I have an oversized furniture set - couch, loveseat, chair, and ottoman. The set is 18+ years old and very well made. I have always turned the cushions, vacuumed, wiped up spills, etc. I have even had them steam cleaned twice.

We have THREE dogs that have the run of the house; so what can I say but that the cushions smell like dogs! I took one of the back pillow covers off, washed it in the washing machine in cold water, and let it air dry outside. It came out fine!

So over the last two days I took all the cushion covers off and all the back pillow covers off and washed them in the washing machine in cold water with an extra rinse cycle and let them air dry outside. Once they were dry, I shook them (outside) and then put them in the dryer on air dry.

OMG you should have seen the wash water. It was disgusting! So my living room furniture looks and smells great!

I am so glad that you dove right in and did this big project SS. Isn't it amazing how great the fabric feels too?

I have two slipcovers for my LR couch to make sure that we keep it looking, feeling and smelling fresh too!!

I wash my couch cushion covers in the washing machine too. It works great. They always turn out nice and clean and smelling fresh.

I have six dogs so when I get a "new" couch I always check to make sure the fabric is not dry clean only. Washing the covers in the washing machine is a must.

Although, my sister bought a couch and the fabric was dry clean only, and she had success with washing her covers in the washing machine. They did fade slightly.

I wonder if my couch cushion covers are washable. My couch is almost 30 years old. I have a picture of me sitting on it when I was about 5 or 6. I am not sure they have ever been washed. Vacuumed, but not washed.

I was getting desperate! I was contemplating buying new furniture OR having it recovered. So washing one pillow cover was no big deal. There are tons of removable pillows on the couches. So if one was ruined it was no big deal.

I have thought about washing them for years! My husband was VERY impressed.

I do it a few times a year. I take the covers off the cushions and wash them. The pillows are more difficult since they don't have covers, but once DS got sick on the couch so I had no choice but to wash them. lol I cut open the seam, removed the stuffing and washed the un-stuffed pillow and then restuffed it with new poly stuffing (which is about $2 a bag). It looked and felt fluffy like a brand new pillow!

I have a mini carpet cleaner than has an upholstery attachment and I use that to clean the arms of the couch a few times a year. Our couch/chair set, which was used when we bought it in 2001, still looks great.

DH and I have a futon in our main living area and I refuse to buy covers for it that aren't washable. It just makes life so much easier.
