Pretend It's A Party!!!
The best way to get your house clean is to actually have a party. However, that's a lot of trouble to go through to get your house clean!

So, instead, sometimes I'll pretend I'm having a party. Then, I clean to where I know I'd be comfortable having people over. I reach places that I don't usually get during a daily clean up, and it always makes me feel good.
So, if you are lacking the motivation to do a thorough cleaning, just pretend you are having a party! My Blog: http://amysreallife.wordpress.com

Embarrassing but I always pretend I'm in a contest to complete as many tasks as possible by a certain time. Flip the laundry, start dishes, litter, refill pet dishes. Not crazy, just gets boring.

That is so true! I usually do my best cleaning when my friend is going to stop by, I can usually do my best work under pressure!

Yup...we're having a party on the 10th of Dec. I was up last night cleaning everything off the top of the kitchen cabinets, rearranging things, putting lights up there :-) And my parents are coming for Thanksgiving....

Amy - that is so true and a terrific idea!!
I can see myself taking this probably too far - assigning different rooms for the party to insure that they all get the 'party' technique to cleaning!!
Mahalo for sharing a great idea!!Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

I am always more consious cleaning when I know people are coming over. Luckily I have been keeping a better handle on the cleaning so I really do not have to do much. Other wise I would be to stressed out and unable to clean.
I detest cleaning but like a clean place.

Our microwave needed cleaning inside and out, but I just hadn't made the time for it!! So, as I was straightening up in the kitchen this morning, I pretended that the first party was going to be in the microwave - it is sparking now and I was giggling as I did it!! - great idea!!

Sounds kooky but nuke a moderately dampened sponge/dishcloth in there for a good minute - ball it up. Once the minutes up....gently unwrap the ball so you don't get burned by the steam and wipe down the inside. Repeat if necessary. EVERYTHING comes off this way lol.
Sometimes at my gf's house - I'll scrub with the sponge on round 1 and then dishcloth on round 2 to wipe it all away - when she's tending to the baby lol. She doesn't notice until she goes to warm something up later on. (Her hubby and son nuke w/o covering the food - ack!)2012: The Year Of The Purge!

I'll give a try this weekend. I usually ipe it out after I have used it, so I guess that things are loose, but I like your reasoning!! Mahalo!!

I learned a easy way to clean my microwave by filling a cup 1/2 way with water and nuking it for 3 minutes and then letting the steam loosen all the grime... Then just wiping it with a few paper towels...it is the best in my opinion and quick...HTH..

Or, you could have a house-cleaning party.
I recently helped an organization for whom I volunteer clean out their old offices (moving to better digs). About 10 of us showed up, people brought food and refreshments, and we donned gloves, mops, and buckets. Only took about 90 minutes to completely scrub down approximately 2,000 sq feet of office rooms, hallways, etc, and it was a lot of fun!
