    Default Spring Cleaning

How many people still clean for Spring? Or is this something that has fallen out of fashion.

I used to do it in February, I even had a special day when cleaning began, but have slacked off the last couple of years. This year I am getting ready to move so feel more like packing than cleaning.

Who does a special clean up in the Spring? Are there any special tasks that you only do this time of year or do you just do a super sparkling job of the regular tasks? Who's done and who hasn't started yet?

We had such strange weather this year; with a really short mild winter and then right into summer temperatures, I found that it never felt like spring and I just didn't get that same urge to clean.

~I do and it takes about 3 weeks to do because it's extra stuff on top of the regular cleaning. And tiring so I have to pace myself and spread it out. The extras are washing windows, moving and cleaning under furniture, shampooing carpets, washing and changing curtains, pillows, washing baseboards( and walls in certain rooms), wiping out cabinets and kitchen drawers, cleaning the doors(smudges),scrubbing out the washer and dishwasher, and finally treating for bugs. The last item is my driving motivation to get all this done in the first place. I hate ants and I like to have the house clean and treated by the second week of April. I'm way behind this year due to the pregnancy.~

I usually spend my Spring Cleaning time getting rid of all the clutter that we couldn't take to the dump or get rid of during the winter. I usually toss the bigger items at that point. As far as wiping down the walls, spraying down the siding, etc, I do that as I'm cleaning up the yards.

We've been working really hard at getting rid of all the extra clutter.

I phase my Spring Cleaning in throughout the year.

I do spring cleaning every year. I always start the first week on April. Honestly I am sooo far behind this year. What I do is a more detailed cleaning of the whole house from the ceilings to the basement floor. And this is both inside and out. I clean the windows. I clean out the garage and clean the yard. At this time I also try to get rid of clutter. I am trying (and I really am trying) to get rid of all clutter in my house. I think spring cleaning is a lot about getting to the things that you could not get to while it was spring... yard, garage and winter clutter.

Yes, I do it every year. And this year I was even earlier than usual because I had a house full of people on Easter, so I got a lot of it done before then.

And as others have said, it's more work on top of the usual/regular cleaning. Shampooing rugs, vacuuming the refrigerator coils, mopping under the fridge, washing all blinds, etc.

We don't have drapes or rugs, and I tend to do intensive cleaning as the opportunity or mood arises.

In spring most of our cleaning takes place in the yard, clearing dead branches, raking up leaves, weeding and pruning. We have a few blessed weeks of perfect, if wet, weather before high temps and higher humidity set it and make yard work a misery.

Every couple of years we do the garage, and since we did that last year, we won't this time.

I do some type of spring cleaning every year. Always sweeping off the deck and cleaning the table and grill. Windows and I usually turn the kitchen upside down...scrubbing down the pantry, walls, cabinets, inside of the drawers and trash cans.

The carpets are in dire straights of needing a cleaning. This will be done the end of May. DH will be on vacation and the garage will need some huge TLC.

I usually do a certain amount but not what I used to do.

I wash all the throw rugs.......and decide if I am going to leave them down during summer or not. Wash the inside and outside of windows, wash blankets, spreads, shower curtains etc.

A lot of mine is just washing things......be it rugs or things I couldn't do during winter.

I wait deeper into summer to do the drapes and usually do the outside of the cupboards during the heat when I have to be inside.

I do this every year. I just feel like I need to clean out the cobwebs and get the house extra clean because it has been cooped up all winter. This year I am doing an extra by remodeling the storage room. I tore out all the ugly shelves, put in tiles and I am putting in drywall and then I am sorting what was in there and seeing what we can get rid of. I buying 4 new sets of shelves from home depot tomorrow. I think I will be completely done with this by Sunday, I hope.

Regular spring cleaning includes flipping all the mattresses, shampooing all the carpets, washing the windows and walls, going through the medicine cabinet and disposing of expired meds. Going through all our clothes and getting rid of the clothes that have been outgrown or stained or torn. Clean out the garage and move all the outdoor furniture outside. And there is more I am sure, just can't think of it all right now.

My spring cleaning usually starts in the fall...

But truthfully, I'm on a war with clutter this year, and that I guess I'll call my spring cleaning. Also, it's the best time of year to be outside, in Fl anyway. The temps hover around 75, and the nights are perfect in the low 60s. Plus all the exotic flowers are blooming, and the air smells unbelievable! So that's when I get outside around 7pm, and rake and trim. It's crazy how all the leaves fall in the spring down here. I'm glad I enjoy raking, because we have alot of trees that look like they're snowing dead leaves right now. And I'm hoping to lose 5-7 lbs too, so.....

I generally recruit the household and tear the house apart the beginning of March, in that brief lull between indoor soccer games and the outdoor games. That was a one weekend window this year and I missed it so now it will be drug out in bits and pieces I'm afraid, unless games get cancelled for Thunder Over Louisville weekend.

Mine includes all the extras like some of the rest of you have stated. Blinds go out an get scrubbed, windows washed, rugs cleaned, curtains washed and changed or rehung, furniture moved if it's going to be, cabinets, closets, and baseboards all scrubbed down, flowerbeds weeded, a mass purge of stuff for a before-it-gets-too-hot yardsale, ceiling fans scrubbed, stove hood fan taken apart and cleaned, and so on. I laways pull all the curtains and blinds down first so the house is full of light. It keeps me motivated.

Our spring cleaning is mostly the yard and outside of the house. Inside things get changed, heavy drapes come down and lighter curtains go up, bedding gets changed (not so many blankets on the beds, etc), and because I can open windows I touch up and paint any walls that need it.

Well... I clean in spring... but I also clean in winter, fall, summer.. It's never ending around here... but so is the life of a reforming pack-rat!

I do find that I get more done in spring though. Maybe because it's nicer weather, not too hot, and I can put bags out on the patio to go to the dumpster without dropping them in 3 feet of snow
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!
