Thread: Opinions on our house

I suppose you could say that, yes!
In the UK we would just call it a "Wardrobe".
"Armoire" is a French word, and if a Brit had one of those it would be a particular physical style, short of shaped at the top and not particularly capacious and considered more upmarket.
Most wardrobes are square and come in different sizes which are placed against a wall in the bedroom.
What we call "fitted" wardrobes are the same thing, but custom made to fit the space available ( around doors and windows and radiators etc)
There are a few very lucky people who have a new-ish house in which the Architect DID put in a small American style closet or "walk in wardrobe" as they called it
I saw one in a house we looked at some years ago and it nearly turned my head lol!
My biggest fantasy is a laundry room, or as they are called in the UK a "utility room".
My own wardrobes are super strong metal rails and shelves that are against a wall and have full length curtains covering them, this was done for ( lack of) space reasons and it only protrudes into the room by about 16 inches, but provides a lot of storage space
Our bedroom is only 10 ft by 10 ft so not a lot of room!
Waaaaaaaaay more than you asked for I guess, sorry I do tend to waffle, er I mean give full answers

Wish we had a nice big walk in closet! For me, this could be the thing that makes the sale. I'm a stickler for detail and notice when there are holes in the wall, etc. So I vote for fixing them some way. And take out a lot of the clothes. Spaciousness sells.

The extra shleves are a great idea. Personally I would fix the holes because the previous owner of our home covered things like that up, and I was really upset to learn what was behind all the mirrors, wall hangings, etc So if we ever buy another hoouse, I will be looking for those kinds of things.
And I kwym about the entire house being painted pink...it looks like your house was painted the same color as mine LOL I am now shuddering at the thought of painting our closets too
Anyway, I would empty out the closets as much as possible..it will make them seem bigger, and the less "eye clutter" there is, the better. It also depersonalizes the space, making it more neutral for people who may have different tastes, lifestyles, etc to envision how they would use them if they were to buy your house.

I think the picture must make it look like more clothes than there really are. I did take out about a dozen things on my side, but the other side is my husband's work clothes and he's already the worst dressed guy in the office
I'll get him to go through them on the weekend, maybe there are a couple shirts or sweaters that he's stopped wearing.
Right now there is about an inch space between each hanger, so nothing is touching anymore. In a couple weeks I'll be able to pack up my long sleeved tops and sweaters as well.
ETA: I put everything on the same hangers, except dh's suits, which need the heavier ones.

Linen Closet
Ignore the green on the door, I'm painting that this weekend.
The box on the top shelf is my wedding dress and it's the only place in the house where I can fit it, so it can't go anywhere else.
Can I put something else in here, or shuffle things around some? I think it looks funny with two shelves with nothing on one side.

Kids Closet
Obviously we don't really use this as a closet, it is the children's library and play room.
Everyone is going to scream at me for too many books
I can pack them up, but they will have to go in the same place, so it's either books, or boxes of books. Which would look better?

Grrr I lost my previous post!!
Here we go, round #2!
I suggest moving the wedding dress to the bottom RH side of the closet - ie floor, out of sight out of mind. And then set up a wicker basket - a pretty one - with toiletries in the middle along with rolled up towel or two on either side to make it look like a display. So when potential buyers open the door they'll see that its empty but supposed to be a linen closet and see a pretty display and how spacious it is.
Kids Closet - I think its great...just tape up a few pics to the back wall so it doesn't look so stark white in there - maybe buy a few cheap pic frames (dollarama plus or ikea) and display a few pieces on the dresser? BTW I prefer the books on out on display vs boxed up.
Another option - those bed in bags or linens in bags in the linen closet could go up on top on the shelves of the kids closet or the wedding dress box?2012: The Year Of The Purge!

The dress box is too tall to fit on the floor of the closet, but I could put it on the top shelf of the kids closet. I'll put it on the right side, closest to the door, it will be much less noticeable there, it's the last place you look going into the closet.
I have a cloth lined wicker basket that I could put a couple towels and toiletries in. It's full of stuff right now, I'll get it emptied out and try it. Maybe I can move the linens to the top shelf after the dress comes out, that might look better.
I'll see if I can find some pictures for the kids closet.
Thank you for all the advice, it's such a big help.

MW - no problem
You've come to the right place for help!
Just think of it this way...if you were going to buy this house - wouldn't you want it to look all pretty, staged and done up? Thats what gave me the idea of a 'display' for your linen closet shelves.2012: The Year Of The Purge!
