Opinions on our house
I've been working on different areas to get ready to sell. I want everything to look clean and bigger than it really is.
Today I organized my closet. I have two rows of shelves above the clothes to give extra storage space, but not sure how much I can put on them without it starting to look closed in.
Also, is it okay if I don't paint it. Most of the house was pink when we bought it, and I haven't bothered with insides of closets because it is just too much painting. But, there are holes in the wall where an organizer and the ironing board used to hang and I don't know if it's so distracting that I need to fix it. There is so much else to do.
Sorry it's so many pictures, I couldn't get far enough back to get it all in one.

It looks like a big closet but I'd still get rid of half of what's in there to make it look bigger. Underbed storage is a great way to go. People like lots of storage and though you have alot, it doesn't quite look that way. People are generally fussy when it comes to buying homes and the more of your home you can show off, the better.
I would also fix the holes. People see something like that and will wonder what else hasn't been fixed. It's a small deal but a big deal to buyers.
All in all, I think the extra shelves are a great idea! Buyers will definately like it!

MW - LOVE the shelves in your huge closet, great use of space. Was thinking of maybe putting a stand up mirror there - you know the kind you can buy from Zellers for $12? and lean it up against where the holes are...vs patching & painting them. Heck lean the ironing board back up against the holes!
Honestly to me, a closet is hidden, I know I know how to patch and paint so that wouldn't deter me at all.
Another trick...organize the clothes in groups of colour or hang the longest stuff at the front of the closet so when you walk in you don't really see it? Its not as functional but the optical illusion may do the trick.2013: Year Two Of The Purge!

Great idea on the mirror, easier than painting and should make it look bigger. I'll switch the clothes the other way as well, right now the longest are at the back and it does look messy.
I can put one of the rolling bins downstairs, the other has to stay as my underwear are in it (I don't have a dresser, this is all my clothes). The bed already has stuff under it, but I can move a few of the containers from the top shelf downstairs as well. Maybe bring it down a layer.

looks good! If you are not going to fix the holes than for sure hang a mirror there. As much as possible weed out the clothes you can live without for awhile to make it look as big as you can.
I am a nut job anyway I keep my clothes in color order I like the way it looks. Dh's things are willy nilly on the lower rod.
As many of the little nicks and dings as you can fix on your own the better. In the buyers mind they add them up. Give them as little as possible to find a flaw with. Make it sparkle even if things are older. Clean is sooooooooo important.

It looks great! I wish we had American style closets

I would put things in colour order and put the longest things nearest the door.
The eyes will be drawn towards the back of the closet so the shortest clothes should be put there.
As for the holes, well I would cover them with a mirror, just a cheapie one and drape it with a scarf or some lace to "glam it up a little"

I think it looks really nice and organized. Yes, weed out clothes you aren't wearing, and yes, organize them by length or something. But other than that, I think it looks realy really good!

I too think it looks great! My bedroom closet is 1/3 of the size of yours and that's for dh & I. We are not clothes horses obviously. I just don't get the big bedrooms, huge bathrooms etc. How much time do people spend in those rooms? Our family doesn't...kitchen & living room I get. Maybe I'm the odd one out on that.

Good luck with your sale!!

I was thinking mirror too before I read it. It would make the closet look bigger, almost double the light and serve a purpose.

Thanks guys!
I managed to weed out a few clothes - not an easy time of year for that, as you never know if it's going to be summer or winter, but I did take out my 'fancy clothes' which I know I won't need for a while. I can't take out any of dh's clothes, he needs them all for work. I put the longer clothes at the front, makes a big difference. They are sort of in colour order now, although pretty much everything is black or brown anyway, and I took out everything with stripes because they were distracting. Moved out the larger rolling cart and a few containers. Have to leave the step stool because I can't reach the shelves without it.
I added mirror to my shopping list and will look for one on the weekend. Such a great idea, I should have put one in years ago.
It definitely looks better, I will post for more tips when I finish the next area.

I know it may be a little extra work but I would paint the shelves white. It just stuck out at me when I looked at it. I was definetly thinking mirror and color coordinate DEFINETLY!! Let's see the results when your done please!

I agree..........the more room (or less cluttered) you can make your home ----they say, the better it is. I even heard you were supposed to remove half of your LR furn...........just to make it look spacious.
Can you store the clothes somewhere else..........at a friend's house for the time being?
