    Question Organizing music CD's

I've been on a cleaning, organizing, and rearranging of several things in my house today. I had a dresser in the living room that I kept our Wii stuff and music cd's in but I moved that in our bedroom. I always have to change things around from time to time.

We have around 200 cd's and for the life of me..they never seem organized. I take the covers off mine and put them in a big cd holder case that doesn't take up much space but dh has to have his in the cover and it takes up a ton of room. I have a cool looking tower but it doesn't store them all.

At the moment they are sitting in a laundry basket while I try to think of something different to store/organize them.

So how do you organize yours?

    TIA

Ours are out of order right now, but we have an oak cabinet that holds DVDs and CDs. Music is normally arranged alphabetically by artist, then chronologically. Movies are usually arranged by genre, then alphabetically. Right now everything is just thrown in the cabinet, waiting to be packed.

That does seem organized. I usually just keep all the artist together and not real detailed.

Yeah, I'm thinking we need some kind of cabinet for them. Or it would be cool if dh could build a cool shelf but that won't happen in the near future.

My husband came with black towers to hold cd's, I got rid of them at the earliest opportunity. I don't like to have open storage for things like that. The cabinet was a bit of a splurge, we bought it at the Amish store. I can't remember what we used before that, I think the old dresser.

I rather have closed storage too. I didn't mind them in the dresser drawers because they was hidden, and up-right and easy to see.

I need to put my thinking cap on for something.

Dh built shelves in the game room closets so that's where I store the CD and DVD cases. The actual CD's and DVD's are stored in zippered cases on the shelf in my office.

I also have the music uploaded to itunes and a backup copy to a flash drive that I keep in the safe because we live in tornado country. I keep a video copy of everything in the safe for insurance purposes.

I had a chest with a removable tray large enough to hold CDs two layers deep. That held most of my discs for quite a while, and then I switched to high bitrate MP3s and itunes. As far as actual organization of the CDs, it was by Artist, then by chronological release.
