Organizing Shoes
How do you organize your shoes? Do you keep your own in your bedroom closet? Or keep everything by the door? If you have a lot, how do you keep them from getting mixed up?
I'm not big into shoes, so I just have a few dress pairs in a drawer in my closet. My mother keeps hers in those little plastic shoeboxes (the ones Walmart sell for around $2) stacked on the shelf in her closet. She has a lot more shoes than me.
Everyone's sneakers, sandals and boots (in the winter) are lined up in the front closet. I bought a little two tiered shelf to stack them in the front closet to make more room, but it's only 3 small pairs wide, which doesn't help much. My next house I will build something the entire width of the closet if it's as small as this one. I don't know why I didn't think of it before (too late now), just an 8" wide board the width of the closet about 6" off the floor at the back of the closet, maybe another 6" above that.
I can't believe I'm already planning projects for a house that doesn't even exist yet.

I have an expandable shoe rack in my bedroom closet that I keep my shoes. Any off season shoes get stored in boxes in the closet. Shoes I wear everyday are kept by the door.

Hehehe MW your thread made me think of this and a former coworker who is a Shoe-A-Holic. She bought several of these and lined her closet floorspace with them. The idea is great but I'm wondering how easy it is to get the shoes in and out of the wheel b/c its bungee cords at the ends where you insert them.

How I've done it so far...I installed wire shelving across the top of my closet about 2.5 shoe boxes tall down from the ceiling. I stack 2 boxes tall there - they're mostly dress shoes that I paid good money for and aren't willing to part with yet or are classic style that I will be able to wear repeatedly. This keeps them up and outta the way. (The wire shelving also has a pole across the bottom to hold items on hangers.)
The rest of my casual shoes get tossed into a tall/deep rubber tote - sandals, flip flops, runners, every day casual dress shoes. I just tape a label on the side of the two boxes so I know whats in them - open toe/sandals & closed toe / casual dress. These totes are stacked neatly in the corner of my closet.
By the door - 1 pr flips, 1 pr crocs & 1 pr runners on the mat with room for other shoes of visitors.2012: The Year Of The Purge!

Thanks MW......a great thread that I also need help with!!!
I DON'T. Well, not really.......I have a lot and for all kinds of weather, seasons, and reasons.
Thanks for a good post and I am hoping to glean some ideas from here for my closet......though I don't hold out much hope.
I simply stack them........by type.
I am in sad shape with this but don't know how else to do it with all that I have. I have summer slippers, winter slippers, slippers that I can wear 'out' of the house, slippers that I have worn out of the house when I zoomed into the garden and will no longer wear them in my house.......these have become my 'gardening slippers'...........need I go on??? And I haven't even covered my clogs.....with holes....without holes....for going to town...for gardening.....blah....blah....blah...

I don't have many shoes...but I keep them in seperate plastic see through boxes from the $1 Store. I wear slippers around the house and those go right next to the bed at night, so I can put them on before I have to go into the bathroom (tile....brrrr!). All other shoes are stored unless worn. DH just keeps his in a row on his side of the closet. Our outsdie shoes are kept in a cupbaord in the garage.

I keep the pair I own under the bed. And then on my feet. I have seen people keep a shelf stacker in the garage.

Meh....I check them first :-) They are in a cupboard, and actually, I've seen very few black widows in Boise! I grew up with them (tri-cities) and we pretty much had them everywhere when I was a kid. I hate them....but have seen very few around here.
