New Room? For What?
Let's dream....
Through some wonderful miracle, you get to have a new room added to your home. Or maybe it is a new one room building on your property.
1. What will you use it for?
2. What will you put into it?
3. How will you decorate?
4. What size will it be?
5. Anything else you want to tell us about this fantabulous new room?Spiritual:

fHg - what a great idea!! However, for me, before I can even begin to dream about a newe room, I truly want to make the most of all the extra and used rooms that we have. With that in mind....
I am creating a master bedroom for us - peaceful, quiet, uncluttered - ahhhhh - I can sense the relaxation now.Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

A room just for me (I'm so selfish) Do a deadbolt and soundproof walls count as decoration?
Inside I would put my computer and desk, sewing machine and supplies, all my genealogy stuff, and whatever else I wanted to work on in peace.

When we moved to this new home, there was a bedroom in the basement. Hubby told me it would be my scrapbooking room. He lined the walls with storage and work space, and put a table in the middle. I can have 3 friends over and 4 of us can craft away down there. So I would like to do something for him.
The room for him would be a big shed, with plenty of room for storage of his woodworking equipment and materials. It would lots of tables for him to set up his tools. It would have a refinishing area, and a library area for his pattern books. I would make sure that it had excellent lighting and a radio. It would need a good vacuum system for all the saw dust, and heating and air conditioning. It needs a garage sized door as well as a regular door. And it needs a covered porch along one side so that he can sit out there and take a break.
Oh how I would love to give that to him...........Spiritual:

The practical side of me says;
1. What will you use it for?
Mudroom/laundry room
2. What will you put into it?
Washer/dryer/folding table/drying racks/ironing board/laundry sink on one end. The other end would be coat racks/storage
3. How will you decorate?
N/A
4. What size will it be?
As big as the rest of the house 750 square feet
The dreamer in me says forget the mudroom....
An indoor swimming pool room with a changing room and showers
1. What will you use it for?

2. What will you put into it?

4. What size will it be?
Twice as big as our house.~~~

1. What will you use it for? Sewing room, extra guest room. (When the whole family comes to visit, one person has to sleep on the sofa.)
2. What will you put into it? Sewing machine, cutting table, shelves for fabric and supplies, either daybed or twin bed.
3. How will you decorate? Light neutral colors, very simple design.
4. What size will it be? At lease 12x12'
5. Anything else you want to tell us about this fantabulous new room? It would have lots of windows for light, either tile or hardwood floors, ceiling fan, door leading outside to the patio.
I've actually considered adding a room, but I simply can't afford it yet.Jean

It would have to be a large garage/work shop for DH. He's worked so hard for the past ten years on our house and there is just no place to park the lawn mower, work on wood projects, etc. It would be nice to be able to park the cars out of the weather and have plenty of room for DH's tools and equipment, plus lumber.

My first thought was that it would be nice to have a 20' by 40' woodshop, "decorated" with a thicknessing sander and free standing beefy lathe in addition to the tools I already own. As long as we're dreaming, let's throw in a nice sliding table saw and a 20"+ bandsaw. It would be insulated, have exactly one overhead door (for moving tools and projects through) and be wired for both 110 V and 220 V.
In order to be frugal with the big bandsaw and maybe even the lathe, there might be a 3-phase rotary converter somewhere. Oh, safety is important too, so there'd be a lower end industrial grade cyclone dust collector.
Have you looked into having a pole barn built? If you're able, figure out how much space he thinks he needs and make him one that is twice that size. If it is just a total surprise, something in the realm of a 3 or 4 car garage should be good for a hobbiest. Only one overhead door is needed for a shop - making it a traditional garage may be done if you're concerned about resale value.

~Practically speaking, a bedroom is the highest priority. But that's boring. So I'll go with a library.
1. What will you use it for?
Library, schoolroom, parlor, guestroom.
2. What will you put into it?
Oversized windows overlooking a garden and window seats to enjoy the view. A daybed with trundle drawer. A table and chairs. A couple of perfect reading chairs with footstools. To the ceiling built in bookshelves with cabinet bottoms. Really good lighting.
3. How will you decorate?
All of our collected artwork and memorabilia framed and hung on one wall in coordinating frames. Neutral colors, probably with a slight Moroccan flair. I think drapes and tapestry pillows look sensational in a library. But very subtle!
4. What size will it be?
As long as I'm dreaming I'll say 14 X 24 feet.
5. Anything else you want to tell us about this fantabulous new room?
This would be the quiet room. No electronics would be brought in ever. Only light conversation allowed just like a real library. Besides the kitchen this would probably be the most used room in the house. School in the morning, afternoon tea and then as an after dinner reading retreat.~Constance

I have had this room before.....but alas I lost it in our move to (gag)CA(gag)
It was a wonderful scrapbooking room that was not decorated in any way - just white walls......but it was ALL MINE
I used it for scrapbooking.
But in my dream room, it would have a nice little alcove that I would put a comfy chair and a nice work area that I could read my Bible in, do my Bible Studies in, and read in. I would like to have all "my" books there too. (organic living and frugal living type topics)
hmmm..... maybe in my NEXT house
