That the dogs didn't even find her when they went in there is amazing to me. Also, if she was the hoarder and missing for 4 months, I wonder if she was found because he was starting to clean things up.

I am speechless about this. I understand collecting and keeping things, but why does anyone not keep it organized? how could she ever find anything she wanted?

Also, how bad must the house smelled if they couldn't smell her?

Really if the dogs could not even find her the stench must have been mind boggling. The dh nose must be so fried just by living in it.

    So sad.

I read that article yesterday, and they also mentioned a pair of brothers in 1947 who were found dead under mounds of trash and 'stuff'. Last known 'death by hoarding', I guess.

Isn't it amazing (and sad) that it comes to this?

My il's are hoarders and to them, there is no smell. Yes they are used to it. It permeates everything. It sickens my husband at the thought of his parents living that way. But they have to want to change. I have not been in the house since Feb 1997. I was basically told by my FIL through my DH that I was not welcome. My children have never been in their grandparents home. No sleepovers at grammas for them. My IL's are always welcome at our home, they come over to babysit frequently.
It is very hard to understand the thought process and why they cannot let anything go.

Very sad!! I told my husband they should change the name of the show that's out "Hording ~ Buried alive". In respect and the fear that others have that have family/friends dealing with horders.. Now that it is a reality..

My MIL has always had a tendency to hang onto too much. Her house here was getting pretty bad but we have not see her home up north since since she moved there three years ago. From what I hear it's pretty bad. I can not understand the attachment to things. I'm a use it or toss it sort of person.
