    Default well water dilemma

Hi we live on 6 acres and have a well. Lived here for over 30 years. We were putting in a neutralizer because our water is hard and the ph was too acidic. Hubby got tired of doing it and we paid over $1,000 for a setup that adds the neutralizer and back washes itself automatically.. Since then have had a horrible film on our glassware when we use the dishwasher so I suspect its on everything. Called the plumbing company and immediately the manager said "your water is too hard so you need a water softener". I told him that we have managed our water without one for all this time and we don't want to add it. He is coming out tomorrow to test our water but his attitude tells me we are going to have a problem about this. I think the contraption is adding too much neutralizer as we never had a film on our dishes before. Anyone experience this? I am afraid to drink the water even if its only too much calcium in it, that is not a good thing. We bring in bottled water but as senior citizens we are getting to a point where bringing it in is difficult. Any thoughts on this appreciated. anneh

We have a reverse osmosis system. The folks before us bought it. It is commercial sized. We added a rust filter too. I just don't trust well water w/o it. We have sulpher and rust hard water. I won't deal w/ orange shower walls and rust spots on laundry. It is sometimes costly but safer.

My sister is on a well.........she got a water softener.

THEN.......since that adds salt.. they put in the rev. osmosis system. Only thing I noticed........sure is slow to fill up a pot for cooking.......no 'real pressure'.

They left the outside faucets as is so she could water her plants w/o harming them. She carries water from the outside to water the orchids.........a real PITA!!
