Neutralizing Sewage Smell
The septic tank is backing up and I can't get it pumped for a couple days. In the meantime, the washer has some very smelly water sitting in it.
What can I do to minimize the odor coming from the laundry room? And how will I get the stink out of the washer after it is cleared?

No experience with septic tanks but can you close off the laundry room from the rest of the house? Leave the window open for 'fresher' air and buy excessively floral plug in scents? I'd say burn candles but I don't think thats very safe right now. As for the stink in the washing machine - run a very very hot wash on high and use a lot of vinegar in the loads. Repeat as necessary.
I think I read here on the village somewhere that you can use Pine Sol in the washing machine .... but don't quote me on that!
