We have Vector. I am not a huge fan but we are stuck. Make sure that if you are not happy with them & don't want to have your contract "roll over" you send them a letter telling them you want to go month to month 3 months before you expire. I was ill with morning sickess & didn't read the fine print. Needless to say, we have been rolled over & are not happy. It was our fault since it is in the contract but it is a stinky policy since you don't get any upgrades either.
They don't suck security-wise since we have never had issues but we have fire-arms, a huge German Rottweiler & my husband is in the Military (with loads of extra training).

It all depends on what your needs are...
My wife is the one who made the decision to get a home security system. Personally, I did not think that we necessarily needed one. We checked out several different companies and each offer a different array of services. You just need to pick a package that will fit your needs. Our "needs" however included a sensor on every door and nearly every window which in turn increases the cost. The extra cost is well worth the sense of security that she now feels.

There was a TV show on for a while that was based on home security. The show would take families who thought their house was protected enough, set up cameras, and then have ex-burglars break in. Every family with large dogs thought that the dogs would go crazy if someone broke in. Very, very few times did the dogs do anything at all. Assuming your dog does bark, that's pretty much only useful if you are in the house. If you aren't, I highly doubt your neighbors will check on your house if they hear your dogs barking.
Point being, if you are concerned about home security, especially while you AREN'T at home, I wouldn't count on animals to help much.
Personally, my wife and I aren't too worried, so we don't feel the need for a security system.

Yes. For me , I would not rely on just one security type system. I agree, if you think a large dog in the yard is protection, you will be disappointed. I had 2 large doberman/shepherd dogs that would not bark if a stranger approached. If I could do it over again, I would have gotten one small chiuawwa instead. I also use a security light in my backyard. It helps to have layers of security.
