In the winter I have a comforter over the top of it so not until about March or April.

The comforter gets washed every other month or so........depends on how much I 'lounge' on it..............or let the dogs on it.

As the bedspread is a winter one; it gets changed when I wash it to a lighter weight one.

Maybe 3-4 times a year and then it is usually because of a spill , pet getting something on it etc. We use the sheets, two thin blankets and then the comforter. No way am I beating the pulp out of my comforter washing it constantly. Besides if we are under the sheets and blankets and it is folded down at night how dirty is ir getting?

Seldom. It's a quilt and too heavy so sleep under. I have no pets, and it's taken off the bed at night, so like another poster said - how dirty is it getting?

This is what I do as well... Or at least *try* to! All of DD's bedding (sheets, mattress pads & blankets) is washed weekly.

So I made the mistake and used google... I can't believe the suggested time on this one!

Think about that next time you check in.

Cleaning a comforter is just as necessary as cleaning anything else in your house. Unless it is visibly soiled or stained, it is recommended to clean a comforter every 3 years. Frequent cleaning may cause damage. The following will guide you in your efforts of having a clean and long-lasting comforter."

Not around MY house... I'd rather have a "damaged" comforter than a seemingly nasty one...I guess it's a mental thing with me.

My current comforter has a slick side that I can wipe the dog hair off of when I need to lay things down on the bed. I should probably wash it more often but I see it as my barrier to protect the bed from them. I wash sheets once a week.

It sounds terrible, I'm sure, but I love the smell of my dogs, its myself I'm washing away. I really dislike when the sheets lose that fresh laundry smell but I don't mind at all the doggy-ness of the comforter, its really comforting to me. (have I mentioned the bloodhound sleeps RIGHT by my head like a cat, curled up in a ball?)

My comforter is covered with a duvet cover. I was the the duvet cover every week when I wash my sheets. My dogs get on my bed.

My son's comforter has seen better days because it is washed every two weeks unless the dogs or drink spills mess it up before then. His sheets are washed every week.

I wash my bedsheets weekly and line dry them. If it's dry enough to hang outdoors, I'll air the comforter at the same time. I'll wash the comforter every few months....basically when it gets showing dust or fuzz, or when a dog sneaks in and pees on it.

I have a Duvet and cover but I don't use the cover as a top sheet like some people do. I use a larger sheet for my top sheet. I fold it over the top of the duvet so it doesn't touch my skin and save on washing the cover. The Duvet is very heavy and cumbersome and its hard to stuff it back in the bag so I like to do it as little as possible.

So I wash sheets once a week. I wash the duvet cover once every month to 3 months and the duvet I put in a hot dryer at that time. I send the Duvet out for dry cleaning once a year.

I wanted that Duvet so badly and now that I have it I wish I hadn't gotten it. I never factored in my strength for lifting it and how that is not going to get any better as I get older. I also didn't take into account the cost of dry cleaning. Layers of machine washable linens would have been much more cost effective and easier on me. Funny how you get a desire in your head and keep it over time at the expense of reason.
