I tried flylady and was SO overwhelmed with emails I unsigned up, it worked for a bit for me but I didnt like the getting completely dressed and shiney sink. I should really look back into it though and give it another chance, thank you!!

I'm not particularly sentimental, so if I have a gift that I don't use, I get rid of it pretty quickly. You'll have to decide if you are keeping things in your way to make you happy, or if you are doing it to possibly make someone else happy.

This thread is very helpful to me right now. I've reached the point of OH-MY-GOD!!!!!!! in my house. My two girls and my boyfriend are very lax about the whole "putting things away" concept and I'm about to go crazy with the mess in the house.
I've been reading all sorts of books from the library about de-cluttering and organizing. I have so many ideas that I want to try and implement, but each weekend seems to come and go without any progress. I need to just start somewhere - anywhere - and be ruthless.
I'm also having trouble getting rid of stuff my family gave me. I keep thinking: What if they notice? Will they think I don't love them anymore? Then I just put the said thing back and give up.
I'm itching for a major spring cleaning! I want to just take a week off from work (wouldn't that be nice), take the kids to daycare and go home, put on some rock 'n roll and clean to my little heart's content. Most likely, that scenario will not happen so baby steps will be the way to go.
The vertical storage thing sounds helpful. Whoever last lived in the rental I'm in must have thought closets were useless because there is ONE in the whole house. Storage is a problem here...
