    Question Central Closet

~Has anyone heard of this idea?
It occurred to me as I yet again grudgingly put away several baskets of clean laundry. Don't mind washing, drying or folding but I hate putting away.
With dishes you get a similar thing, they always need to be washed and put away but that doesn't really bother me.
I figured the difference was that all my dishes were stored withing 2 steps of the dishwasher. Laundry is all over the house and in many closets and drawers. And my house is small!
What if all the clothes for a household were store in one central closet in or attached to the laundry room? I think I'd love it. I could put a three way mirror in there and a screen to change behind.
You wouldn't need closets or dressers in bedrooms so less surfaces to dust and furniture to clean around.
If we add on to this house I'm considering leaving a small 'bedroom' to use this way.~

One of the clients I cleaned for had a huge... HUGE walk in closet complete with washer and dryer. Each wall was lined with shelves or racks for hanging and it contained just hers and her husbands clothing. The kids each had a wardrobe in their rooms but no closet. It was a very interesting lay out.

Hm, but the wardrobe in each room is still putting laundry away.

This central closet idea is very interesting. Not sure its for me, as I don't mind laundry tasks. (its my favorite chore) A spare bedroom/dressing room does sound interesting. I'm going to read more about it, thanks!

I'm not good at putting dishes away even when they are 2 steps away, I don't see the point unless someone is coming over. If I wash a bowl, put it in the dish drainer, then need a bowl, I use that bowl in the dish drainer.

I tend to do this as well.

This is an interesting concept and I can definitely see the benefits for a lot of people. I've never heard of it before now . I have to confess that, unfortunately, my downfall is the ironing portion of the laundry, so I don't think this would help me much personally unless it came with a professional, live-in ironer.

That is what I was going to say. LOL

Before they had the big house they used a "spare" room for the closet.

I love it, I have a central closet with shelves and it is so helpful.

I also have a "Coco Channel Room" in a little walk in closet off my master bedroom. It has a black and white checkered floor, a built in wardrobe for my clothes, and hats, shoes, and handbags....hehehe and an old beauty Chair that I hand painted , black and white with pink trim. All my friends have a blast in my Coco room. It has a chandelier and looks like a French boutique. I had waited until I got my Victorian to be able to do this room and central closet, they both have help keep things organized. I have even done makeovers in there.

I don't think I would like all my family's clothes stored in one place, so not for me.

But I want to see pics of the Coco room, HappyMama.

ETA, I can understand why the Duggers would do that though!

I think the Duggars kept the basic clothes in one central room but the personal underthings in the bedroom in the dressers, otherwise why else would you need dressers in the bedrooms? Do you want your kids to see your 'special lingerie' vs daily wear stuff? KWIM? (if applicable )

I like the idea of one central area for clothes though!

I could see it working for kids, but I wouldn't want to be trapsing across my house trying to find clothing all the time.

I just don't know if it would work for our lifestyle, but if it works for yours it could be a great time saver.

Yup, that is my dream closet. Large area to keep clothes, washer and dryer, area to put clothes and jewelry on, makeup area.

They kept under things in buckets labeled for each child in the laundry room at least they did in the old house.

DO they have dressers in the bedrooms?

Here is the you tube of the episode where they moved into the new house. Shows the rooms and the central closet.
