well, I was feeling good about my house today....
I spent the entire morning cleaning my house. Not just putting things away but real cleaning. I did the floors, bathrooms, cleaned windows, vacuumed the sofa, dusted, I even cleaned all the tiny little glass pains on my entertainment center. I did laundry, and picked up the kids rooms. I was on a roll!
Dd brought a kid from school with her. The first thing the child says is "your house is dirty".
Then I hear her tell dd " I thought your house would be nicer then this".
She spotted my wedding photo on the wall and asked " is that back when your house was cleaner"?
Now I don't know where this kid lives but I'm terrified to invite her mom over. I can't imagine her house. It's must be all white and covered in plastic, smelling like bleach.
I'll admit sometimes it is dirty but today is not one of those days.
Today it's dog hair free, and smells like pine-sole. I even lit a candle.

Gotta wonder what this kid's parents are like.

I don't think I'd be inviting that kid over again! Sorry she's so rude.

Do not let the kid win!!

Yes after all your efforts of cleaning - FOR YOU - their words did hurt but think about it, they are still children. Not everyone has a home out of a designer magazine. Maybe their parents are into a different decor style. Who knows if there's other issues that are laying under the radar as well.

That would bother me too. I have "clutter issues".
However, that is one bratty little kid. How old is she? You never know about someone else's living situation - maybe her family has a maid or something. I know you have pets and kids - houses like that are "love-worn" and I think they are much nicer than the magazine homes that I see. My house can be a disaster but there is a lot of living done in it. Can this girl say the same for her home?

a lot of times people with lack of vocabulary say "house is dirty" when they mean cluttered and crowded.
i had a friend who would come over after i had just mopped, swept and dusted and she would complain the house was dirty. i never could figure out what she meant until i went to her minimalist, barely furnished house. oh! (edit: complete with white carpets)
she had one of those mcmansions with the entire downtairs empty.11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

I agree with Ladykemma. And I also agree that you should give no energy to her words - none at all. She is a child - and who knows whats going on in her mind - for all you know she may be homeless.
Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

She lives a few streets down from us, a normal home as far as I can see. Nothing too fancy from the outside. The child is 8.
I have no clue about the inside of her home but mine is far from cluttered but I do suppose to a true minimalist it could look "dirty".
I think it all just struck me so odd because I'm accustomed to people coming to my house and saying things like " I thought you said you weren't going to clean". My inlaws think I'm a neat freak. My mother does not concur. You just can't please everyone but I'm not worried about a child's opinion. You can beat I was glad to see her go!!!

I knows its hard but just ignore it. That was very rude and the kids needs to learn to communicate better.. I'm sure your house looks great!

You have posted pics of your home. I was very envious. Everything was so orderly and tidy!I suppose when she comments you could hand her a dustrag and have her dust, LOL.
