Default 19 days to DD day!!

Okay - I have 19 days until DD returns from her island hopping. I use her visits as a gauge as to how much I am getting done in decluttering our home.

Why am I posting here? I need help, support and great ideas to keep going. A coworker just moved her family into the homeless shelter, a heck of a lot better than being on the streets as they have been. I asked for and received a list of things that she needs - that will sure help in decluttering for me and helping her too!!

    Today I am

    1. moving one box to school where it belongs.
    2. going through one large plastic bin.
    3. going through the treasures in boxes in front of the entertainment center
    4. cleaning out our food plastic containers
    5. filling her list with as much as I can from what we already have
Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

When I am decluttering I generally keep a garbage bag/box with me and a yardsale box. When I'm dooing a REAL decluttering I generally do either a specific room or item type completely before I move on to the next area. Now it may take me a month to get through my son's room but I don't move on to the kitchen until I've completed his room if I'm doing the room by room thing. Sometimes I do item types though. This may be clothes or linenes or books. I don't move on to the next "item type" until I've gone through all of that stuff.

**** when I am done for the day the yardsale box gets a quick look to see if everything is really yardsale worthy and goes up to the yardsale stock in the attic - the trash bag goes directly out without a second glance.

**** I frequently go through my yardsale stock with friends and give them stuff from it. In my case most of this is outgrown kids stuff that another parent is happy to take off my hands and I'm happy to see gone.

**** I will sometimes set a goal of going through something each day like "today I will clean out the desk". Then I'll break it down into "Clean out a drawer play on the computer for 10 minutes". Next drawer, then 10 more minutes of playtime and so forth.

Mahalo for the ideas TRN. I'm attacking the boxes that DH brought in from our rental space at this time to be able to get rid of the space this month.....so I guess that approach could also be considered project specific.

Shall be checking in after school this morning with my plan for today. Am really happy with all I accomplished last night!!
