A few questions about cold storage.

I keep seeing folks refer to cold storage. Here are the questions that I have:
What exactly is it?
What do you use it for?
Where do you have this? Shed, Garage, Basement???
How long do things keep?

I think this can vary according to parts of the country.

The 'true cold storage' here is a large freezer that you rent from a business........and that IS their business. People will use it when they get something large during hunting season and etc. and it doesn't fit in the home freezer.

But........when I was being raised, on the farm , in an old farm house.........we called "cold storage' the place where we kept apples, squash, and potatoes, etc. Things that we didn't want to freeze but needed to be kept very cool for storage. It was a pump house (for the water) that had cement walls and stayed very cool.

Cold storage does mean different things in different parts of the country.

Here cold storage is a spot in your basement that has no heat, is cool and dark. We keep potatoes, onions ect in there.
