    Default Help... cleaning carpet

Ok, I waited too long to clean it. I took simple green in a spray bottle, and a scrub brush, sprayed and scrubbed, maybe a 4 foot area. then took the steam cleaner over it.

Oh boy do I have areas that did not come clean.. I was going to buy some of the canned spray cleaner, and go over it again, spray, scrub, and clean it up with the steam cleaner...

Any ideas? My carpet is off white, which doesnt help any. It looks horrible. I think I read somewhere to try engine degreaser.. has anyone tried that?

at home depot and lowes there is a product called FOLEX it works great. My daughter had a month old chocolate pudding stain on her white carpet (yes i had cleaned it when it happened and shampooed the carpet it just didn't come out) and I had sticky tar blacktop stuff from where they just fixed a bridge on my very light grey car carpet and it removed both with little effort. I read review s on amazon for it and decided to try it and it is the best carpet cleaner I have EVER found. Not too expensive either the bottle was under $6, which is cheaper than most of the resolve etc that I tried that didn't work for crap.

    What did you spill?

In my experience the canned stuff isn't worth the $$$. Multiple passes with the steam cleaner do work, however.

Nothing was really spilled on it, my high traffic areas are the worst, I just didnt clean the carpet soon enough and it got really dirty. I was thinking maybe the spray foam would take out the darker areas. Of course I have really light spots where the carpet came clean and making the other spots look worse.

I think I will try that folex, that way I can just use it in the steam cleaner. All the reviews look really good and its pretty cheap too. I also like the fact there is no smell, no solvents in it and its safe for the cats. I'll pick some up next time I go to town.

    Thank you scrap_candles!

yeah there really isn't a smell to it. I just sprayed it on, rubbed my fingers into the carpet and it pretty much came right out. I do use it in my carpet cleaner and love the fact that you don't have to rinse it.
