I use the small chlorine tablets in the back of the tank. The one inch tablets intended for spas. It keeps the bowl clean and lasts for months.

Birdie, I'm unfamiliar with these chlorine tablets. Where can I purchase them? Thanks for the great idea!

I bought mine at Walmart in the pool supply section. People with spas use them. The larger 3 inch tablets are used in swimming pools. Maybe a pool supply place. I think I paid under $8 for a 5 pound container of them a few years ago. They seem to last months since I only use one at a time in each toilet tank.

Birdie - I never thought to use the pool/hottub chlorine pucks for that. I find that when I use the toilet bleach ones, that it eats/distorts the rubber seal on in my toilet tank so it ends up 'running' or leaking water all the time. It costs me more to replace the rubber seal every 2 months or so.

I haven't had trouble with the rubber getting eaten. Though lemon sounds less caustic than chlorine. Can you share your recipe for the lemon cleaner?
